A Theoretical Life. The Conjurer, Part Seven.' Well, my uncle always asked me as a kid, "What is Life?" I never knew. He would reply; "A Magazine. How much is it worth? Ten cents." I have never forgotten that. Yes, what is life worth? Very well done, Bev.

The setting with Dr. Morales and the old Indian Shaman, Pasquale, reminded me of a scene or two out of Oliver Stone's film, Natural Born Killers.
This old guy has definitely got powers. The famous mind fu@king Magician, Cris Angel, ain't got nothin' on old Pasquale.
Natural Born Killers: Peyote scene, desert:
Mallory:
It's kinda like "The Twilight Zone"

Old Navajo Indian:
Is that your wife?
Mickey:
Oh, Man:
Old Navajo Indian:
Washington...
Mallory:
Oh, he died?
That was your baby, huh?
Mickey:
Feel the demons here, Mal?
Mallory:
I think we're the demons.
(hissing and rattling)
(howling)
(Navajo chanting)
(rattling)
(Navajo song)
Mickey's dad:
Who you out there fu@kin'?
Mallory:
- Your father.
- Bitch!
(chanting continues)
(mumbling)
Mallory:
I said, shut up!
Mickey's mom:
Come here, you peckerhead.
Mickey:
Don't...don't hit me!
Mom...?
Mickey's mom:
I hate you,
you little asshole!
(moans and screaming)
(gunshots)
Mallory:
This is so bad!
- What did you do, Mickey?
Mickey:
- I didn't mean it!
(Mickey sobbing)
Mallory:
Bad, bad, bad...!
Bad, bad!
Mickey:
Okay...get it together, now.
Come on--!
I can't say why the above scene where Mickey kills the kind old Navajo Indian man in the desert while smoking peyote came to mind, but it did, just the same, Bev.
Again, another fantastic chapter which, with Dr. Morales revelation to the Shaman at the end, leaves the proverbial door wide open to a myriad of possibilities.

Thanks for the great review and peek into the scene of a cult-classic. I have a girlfriend that says Natural Born Killers is her favorite movie of all time. Not because she liked it, but because it's frikkin' brilliant.
Don't know why, but shaman's all seem to speak their own language. I think they've reached the place of intended action without a lot of forethought. That's not to say they aren't sober. I think they are just more willing to risk it all.
This is, without a doubt, the most creative review I've yet received. I think it shows that you really get what this story is about for me. So, a very special thanks, Dean.

The imagery was impeccable. I felt I was there watching Moralis's every move. The good doctor has a lot to learn. He continually refers to Pasquale and his posse in unflattering and criminal terms. This chapter it was "devious" and "henchmen." How ironic that Moralis shows the behavior of a devious and shallow man, letting his emotions override his intellect at every turn.
Excellent writing; showing your readers the physical superiority of Pasquale which mirrors his intellectual superiority over Moralis.
The sun's heat, the strangeness of the physical surroundings, plus the vortex-like feel of the desert, creates the perfect setting for the supernatural. It's fitting that Moralis experiences mystical events at this juncture. He needs a wake-up call and he's getting it. He finally acquiesces: "I want to remember what it's like to be a man."
You excel at this subject matter, Bev. Your story is riveting, well written and thought provoking. Amazing.

Hi, Dawn. Thanks so much for this very generous and encouraging review. I have lived an unusual life and been exposed to many different elements that definitely get recycled into my writing. The word disturbing, I think, is appropriate for the world of shamans and magicians. Some people also call it otherworldly, but I'm not sure which world they think is the real one.
