The judge really has Cody going in this, asking him what he thought about spending time in jail. Cody is so panicked that he will be taken away from the Sheriff and promises that he will not get into any more trouble. The judge puts a scare into the boy, but he seems to relent when he picks Cody up and sets him on his lap. Very intense scene and seems very real. As things are seen through Cody's viewpoint, I doubt that he would use the word "bode." If he's thinking, keep it within his vocabulary. judi

A riveting read that kept me engaged and with a character in Cody that seems to conger up the best part of one's heart in wanting to take the young boy in and make things right...complete buy in. Excellent build up and looking forward to subsequent storyline.

This is the first chapter I have read, and I will go back and read the rest. For now, I wanted to see your writing style apart from the story itself.
I loved the way you humanized the judge, who seemed intent on grilling Cody as though he was a hardened delinquent.
The story flows well, and is intriguing.
Well done,
Rhonda

Hi Brett,
I'm sure enjoying reading your story about Cody. But of course again you have to keep us in suspense by stopping the story, making us wonder what will happen next. It was nice of to tell us that the judge picked him up and let him sit on his lap, so my guess is that he'll allow Cody to live with the Sherriff or maybe the Judge will take him home with him.

I am assuming the sheriff is beginning to consider the deputys intrusion as something to be kept under eye for awhile.
Interresting how you have the short pieces that leave one hanging
