Thanks for the congrats, William. Indeed, my muse has me writing non-stop lately because Nature could not be more lush these days. Rod

Hello, Poet,

Interesting poem entry for-> my muse contest
It flows well and the rhyme is almost perfect except for this stanza:

If I but see a tree in bud,
inhale sweet lilac in a breeze,
or hear the honking geese above,
I'm apt to scribble similes.

Hi GBR. Thanks for sharing my poem. I did take poetic license with those rhymes. Sorry they didn't please. Rod

What a lovely expression of your inspiration to write. The beauty of nature is that she is ever-changing, progressive, and ultimately inexhaustible. Yes we have irresponsibly exhausted her of some resources but she will exert her vengeance, and rightly so. Caring she is, but she will not be taken for granted. Patient she is, but her wicker will burn out... Let's appreciate, her while she's on side....

Thank you for sharing this piece.
Jo

Excellent rhyming and I thought having mother nature as your muse was great. I haven't read another poem where the muse was Mother Nature. Each verse spoke of a moment in time when nature was evident and the perfect time was late at night. I have to agree. I write my best when it is late at night with no TV, phone or Internet to interrupt my thoughts.

Thank you so much for your wonderful praise and rating, John. I cannot tell you how often I've stayed up into the wee hours to write because of "her" influence. Rod

I like it, it reminds me of me. Your personification of nature is great, and I like the way nature inspires you. And I smile as I reach this: "I'm apt to scribble similes." Good job, I hope you win this contest.

I was told a writer can make a piece out of anything and that is so true.
When the muse speaks you have to stop what you are doing and jot down the spark before it flitters away.
Very nicely done and a great rhyme and flow piece for the contest

This is a gorgeous poem! Well done! What a great entry this is for the 'My Muse' contest. Mother Nature does always inspire us with her beauty.

I loved every word of this poem. Well written and presented. My favorite line is: "I'm apt to scribble smiles" ... I really could connect with this. If one is happy, and has been out enjoying Nature, one is much more apt to write a happy poem, vs. a sad one.

Great job on this! Best wishes for the contest!

Connie

This poem about a muse, Muse Extraordinaire, written in what sounds like iambic tetrameter, does a nice job of presenting some of the daily wonders that influence writing. I noted that they often inspire at odd hours. Nice.

light, fun, enticing. The rhyme is consistent and strong and the ideas are clever. I liked that you describe nature as a woman/child as she can be stern but can also be playful.

Love, love, love your muse! She visits with me once in a while too... eyelids damp with dew and moon kissed eyes- she sounds lovely! Well done.
