I would like to hear your story live, it was very interesting to read and you have a keen ability for the written story telling as well. Very well done.

Yes, DonandVicki, I would like you to hear and see my story live, too. I just performed it last night to tighten it up before the contest tomorrow night. Your review encourages me. Thanks.

This was entertaining. I had an interesting experience there too. My luggage was ruined by the airline and I was told to go to so and so address to get a new free bag. I gave the cabbie the written directions and the luggage shop was on the second floor of an old building on an old street lined with hookers. I got the bag and left.

What, zekeziemann? You should write a story about your baggage experience. That is the best lost baggage story I have heard so far. I am glad that my story entertained you and that you found my experience interesting. Thank you for your review.

Yes, Paige, I made many wrong turns in decisions that caused me to end up nearly a mile from Il Campo. I would make different choices now. One reviewer said that the best app in the world is common sense. Thank you for your review.

Did you win the contest?

"Sometimes, you need to go without the maps and the apps. Sometimes, you need to lose yourself in a city or in a community to find yourself. And sometimes, the best adventures in life are unplanned. You see, I didn't become the person I am today by following maps."

I like your ending

The contest is in two days and I am taking off work early three days in a row so I could rehearse and commit this story to memory. I am glad you liked the ending. I ended the story on a strong note that will resonate with the audience. Thank you for your review.

OK, good story. I have been to Spain several times, the last with a as helper for youth symphony orchestra, spent a lot of time in concert in towns scattered around northern Spain, good time. Kids average age, 14 were pretty good
Thought your story well written and the events quite disturbing.
I think you told this story very well and gave me cause to think and wonder and ask, where and when will the crap stop. Well done.

Yes, Halfree, I have also traveled to southern Spain. I have found that regions that had once been occupied by Muslims still hold suspicions towards them. Now, with the influx of refugees from the Middle East to Europe, every country is going through its throes. I do not know when this will end. Thank you for your thoughtful review.

In Mesagne, near my apartment, was a butcher shop with three windows.
carne bovine, carne equine, and carne. The carne had fangs...Mesagne was a mostly communist town and I faced an ugly confrontation or two...the Italians were a combative people. Well written story.

A harrowing adventure in Italy brilliantly told. You bring a very unique perspective to it. Being lost in a foreign city can be scary enough, but you added several overtones. It was told well by a good story teller. I enjoyed it very much. Best of luck in the contest.

Yes, Treischel, I enjoy adding several overtones to my stories. Many of the storytellers I see are one note storytellers. They tell a story that is all sad, all happy, all angry, etc. I enjoy mixing the emotions and striking a balance between happy and sad. If I do it right, they enhance the "flavor" of my story. Thank you for your review and for wishing me success in the contest.

Your description of being lost outside the city walls and imagining being attacked by medieval enemies is a glimpse into human nature. When we are threatened by anything that we can't seem to control many other fears also come into play. Being lost in a strange city, in the dark, without common language is a set up for fear. Your essay includes several incidents of feeling threatened, but fortunately things came out ok for you. There is an underlying humor in your essay that makes the reader cheer for your well being.

Yes, Marykelly, never have I been so lost and terrified in my life. Things turned out okay for me. I am glad you noted my essay's "underlying humor" because I try to mix terror and comedy in the same story. Thank you for your heartfelt review.

I found your story absolutely engrossing. Even though it was obvious that you survived, it was still very frightening to read of and actually get a sense of the panic you must have felt upon getting lost in a place that was completely foreign to you. Add to that the unpleasant memory of being of being racially and sexually profiled to the point where you feared for your physical safety. You are an excellent story teller and I always enjoy reading your stories.

Oh, thank you, nomi338, for your generous review. of my "absolutely engrossing" story. Never before have I been more lost and frightened in my life. Given what I know now, I avoid putting myself in that situation again. Thank you also your your compliments on my storytelling.
reply by nomi338 on 21-Jun-2016
No worries. Some people could ruin an epic story by being poor story tellers. Others on the other hand can make an uneventful story exciting by the skillful use of sense and structure.
