Oh, wow, what an amazing story, my friend. I had chills all over when I read how she blessed everyone at the nursing home. What a wonderful mission she fulfilled here on earth. Should we all do so...
Great storytelling ability. You're writing is engaging and personal.
Well done, my friend!

On an aside, I noticed your husband was injured by a bull, and that's just what happened to me back in January. I ended up with my jaw broken in two in two places, a major concussion I'm still dealing with, and 5 operations. None-the-less, I was blessed to be able to go back to work, though I had many health care professionals tell me they didn't know how I lived through it. I guess, like Zip, I have work left to do here.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful story,
Rhonda

Thank you for the great review and the six stars. It sounds like you are a very lucky person to have survived the bull attack. You were hurt worse than my husband was but he had permanent injury to his back and has never been able to walk good since the incident. Glad to hear you are getting better.

Wow, yeah, at least my back wasn't hurt. I still have pretty bad headaches, but as a school teacher, my injuries don't mess with me too much. I lost three teeth, but am getting a partial on Monday. It's taken that long to get to this point. I still have vertigo pretty bad, but, again, teaching school is easy on the body.
It's strange that we have similar stories on that.

A touching story, exceptionally well-told! I haven't read any of the other entries, but I'd be surprised if any were as good.

Good luck in the contest!

What a lovely story! My cat is the exact opposite to your Zip. Sure, she loves me, but won't let anyone else come near her! I thought it was lovely that the nursing home let you continue to bring Zip in for the other guests. It does them so much good and doesn't harm anyone. Well done, this is a really wonderful entry, good luck! xxx

Thank you. I have another cat now and she is a one person cat. Blossom puts up with me but no one else. Blossom is typical of most cats. Zip was an exception to the rule.

I did not think I would enjoy the story being that the main topic revolved around a cat. I don't hate cats, but I personal don't for cats being that I can't be around them indoors. My point being is that the story was so well written that I read the whole story and enjoy every word of it. I guess a non-cat lover can have an open mine at times. Thanks for sharing, very enjoyable read.

Thank you for reading even if you are not a cat person. We each have our own likes and dislikes. Zip didn't care if someone liked her or not. She loved them anyway.

What a beautiful story! I grew up with cats and currently have two little dogs, which we got shortly after immigrating to Australia. They make such a difference in our lives and helped me get through some really difficult times. I agree that we can learn a lot from animals. If humans had the same unconditional love and attitude, the world would be a much better place. Well done.

Not only is this a great narrative, it demonstrates what the most important element of human life is - to love and be loved. All my pets, cats and dogs, have always owned me, not the other way around. The heart-wrenching loss of a love-giving being builds compassion and empathy. Great job!!! John

Zip was a therapy cat! How wonderful that she brought joy to so many lives in that nursing home. I loved your story about the sweet kitty. I love cats but I'm allergic to them - but we have three dogs. Animals are the best. Loved your story!!

Thank you. Not many cats are like Zip. Most of them prefer a rather solitary existence. I still miss Zip yet today.

This has to have a six star rating as it is just a great story as you can tell I am a cat person ( I have three rescue cats) I can relate to this story so much as one of the cats we adopted was the mother of the other two and when first brought home was so terrified of everyone it took nearly 6 months before she settled in now she greets everyone as a petting friend.

This is a beautifully told story and, as a cat lover, I was hooked from the beginning! The description is very well-written and the reader can easily visualise the scenes being described. The ending is very unexpected and ten reader feels delighted that Zip has been so happily embraces by the community at the nursing home. Good luck with the contest.

Zip is something else. One expects such behavior from dogs, but not cats. (Mine hides too when strangers invade our home). Nursing homes need to be more aware of how an animal can ground a person and give them someone to love and be loved in returned.
An inspirational story. Writing wise, you need to use more active voice. An overuse of "was" and "were" for example.

The first thing I noticed WAS their unusual coloring. They WERE white with black tails, ears, and legs; much like a Himalayan cat. Their hair WAS long and silky and their eyes WERE a bright blue. In short, they WERE beautiful. Sadly, they WERE also dying. Something must have happened to their mother and the poor creatures WERE nearly starved. Their movements WERE feeble and their cries weak.

An easy fix with a subject doing the action i.e.

I noticed first their unusual coloring: white with black tails, ears, and legs; much like a Himalayan cat. Bright blue eyes peered out from the long silky hair covering their bodies. But these beautiful creatures appeared to be dying. With no mother in sight to give them milk, they could barely move for lack nourishment. Feeble movements and weak cries tugged at my heart.

Thank you. I will edit and remove some of the was's and were's. I have a habit of overusing words like was. Thanks for the reminder. Sorry, I have no more reviewer votes. Catch you next month.
