This is such a hot subject Mikey and I'm glad you have addressed it.

I got into this discussion a couple of weeks ago with a customer at my store who was looking at a $1400 antique gun. Through the discussion, I found out him and his son (these are nice, peaceful people I've known for years) both own semi-automatic weapons. Needless to say, I lost the sale - lol.

I agree - no one needs these automatic weapons - machine guns - except the military.

The laws MUST change. We CANNOT keep having these types of shooting.

Thanks again for speaking out.

Teresa

So proud of you to stick to your views even at the cost of a sale. I was in the bird business back in the day and lost money often when I didn't think the customer would provide a good home. Better to sleep well at night, yes?
We are totally on the same page. No surprise. Thanks a million, mikey :))

Those were the days, girl, and they still are. It just takes me more to get involved anymore. Let 'em try and come at me if they're that foolish. I don't have any scars, that should tell 'em something, yes? Ready for war? :)) michael

I applaud you mikey! Nice to see Australia at the top of the chart but not so nice to see the USA right smack bang at the bottom.
The NRA has a lot to answer for...infact, all of the fucking above.
I couldn't have said it better myself and you've saved me having to pen something that spells it out.
Duh!
Gun regulations = Less Deaths (MANY MANY MANY MANY less)

Do you hear that, you fucking gun toting Yanky fuckwits?
As much as I hope for change for your country, it's going to take a mass revolt by your people (the ones who DON'T want to bare arms) and how the hell you convince these arrogant fucks that the first, second, third and however many more goddamned amendments need to change...well Christ. I think you just spelled it out in plain English. Really well expressed, complete with statistics. Sorry but I don't EVER plan to visit the USA.

Well done on your efforts.

This should cause a fucking ruckus. Good for you. I'll be reading your reviews with interest. I have a feeling someone is going to try and tear you a new one LOL

You got guts kid.

P

PS. If I could give you all the sixers I have right now, I would. So much, infact ALL of what you say makes sense.
Pity the NRA is deaf and fucking DUMB ass!

You've discovered another reason why so many of us here dig Australia. :))
I'm so honored that you enjoyed my piece and support me. We're just plain fuckin' nuts here with the whole gun thing. How embarrassing it is to look at those numbers and realize the whole world is watching. Jeesh.
Yep, I'm sure they'll come after me. Crazy's a lot harder to handle then they can imagine. HA!! Can't stop smiling. Thanks a million, mikey

I don't disagree but if somebody wants to kill you there are others ways, for instance bombs.

No doubt about it, Barbara. I'm not even against gun ownership. I find it a valuable right and one I support. I just think the regulations are out of whack and the results are proof of it. I can see from your list there's a LOT of things needing attention. Thanks for such a thorough and thoughtful response, mikey

mikey, you present a sound and logical argument for your opinion in this matter. The tables shown are staggering and frightening. I believe that only police and military personnel should be able to possess automatic weapons. There is no need for the individual citizen to have access to such killer weapons of destruction!
My husband is adamant that anyone should possess any type of weapon they wish to own. We argue about the 2nd Amendment too much. He believes that once they (the Government) take away one right, they will start taking all of them. I am anxious to show him your writing and the tables you show with all the statistics relative to death by guns. Great writing. God bless and hugs, Susanne

I'm not against gun ownership, but there sure seems to be something terribly amiss with regulations considering the results. There's a speed limit, fireworks are illegal in many cities, smoking is illegal in most places, but machine guns are okay? Seems a bit out of whack. mikey

There is a terrorist group operating in the United States that willfully provokes paranoia and hatred, and then insures that those it has worked up into a frenzy are easily armed. This group has murdered more Americans than ISIS ever will. That's right, it's the National Rifle Association. As a friend of mine said, it's very difficult to shoot someone if you don't have a gun. Believe it or not, Canada's gun laws are less restrictive than our own. Yet their statistics are nothing like ours. Perhaps there is something unique in our national psychology. Scary, isn't it? Thank you for your post.

The power of the NRA is mystifying to say the least. Scary is the word. Our national psychology seems to be one of apathy which is a shame. Thanks soooo much for your well thought out and strong response. Much appreciated. mikey

This is a very good report on the freedom to own any guns in any country must be more controlled. The statistics were enough to make me decided that it is not worth it. In our country, law abiding citizens have to go through psychological testing and training to use a firearm before you are allowed to take possession of the firearm. On the other hand criminals have weapons to kill and rob as much as they want without legal documents. Each countries weapon laws should be revised and controlled more strictly.

I'm with you 100 percent, Sandra. It's sad, but we are by far the worst country on Earth in this regard. The numbers are embarrassing. I hope we wake up and do something. Thanks for the great analysis and input. You are always so concise and on the money. :)) mikey

South Africa is not much better, Farm attacks happen almost daily, protests where valuable property gets burned to the ground. The statistics don't show the real picture. We are on constant alert, to leave our homes when it might become necessary.

Nice work! I wish we could have a sensible debate on guns, but sadly, when the subject is broached, the fear mongering and flag waving go hand in hand. There should be common ground for the safety of our citizens, but one side doesn't want to hear about it. Good job with this piece.

Take care,
Russell

I'm hoping for a sensible debate. I realize I'm at one end of the spectrum. But I'm more than willing to compromise my position in an effort to effect change and improvement. I'm not against gun ownership entirely. But, we sure can't accept the status quo. Thanks a million, mikey

Hi Mike, I agree with most of your statements. I live in Texas and both my son and my husband love hunting. I don't go along. They have guns, I have several in my house. I fear them but know that my husband handles them well and that he grew up on a ranch. I do not believe in telling others how to believe, but my husband and I have agreed to disagree on this one. We went to a hotel at the beach one time and my husband found a loaded pistol in one of the bottom dresser draws. I gasp when I think , " What if my grand daughter age 5 had found it?" We gave it to the police department. Crazy people don't need guns but they can find them everywhere. My husband also has a license to carry. We have an agreement that he won't leave the guns in the car when I am driving his car. I wouldn't know what to do with it. So many questions. Thank you for opening it up for discussion.

I have the impression your husband is just the kind of responsible individual that I'd have no problem issuing a gun permit to. Wow. What a chilling story and it scares me to know it probably isn't that rare an occurrence. I'm not against gun ownership. I'd just like to see some sensible regulations and a stunning reversal of these statistics. If all Americans approached the matter like you and your husband, there wouldn't be a problem. Thanks so much for the great input. Just what I hoped for. mikey
