I was fortunate to have a mother who stayed at home when I was growing up, but my best friend was a latchkey kid and you have described beautifully what he was expected to do after school and why. I especially like how the mother explains why this routine is necessary, hoping he will understand. Good meter and rhyme throughout.

I can only interpret this term "a latchkey child" as a child left alone in the house by the descriptions in this very well written poem. If that is what a latchkey child is, then you'be turned a difficult memory into a beautiful poem. Really nice job, keep up the good work.
