Iwas blessed to share this lovely lyric poem, about nothing critical need be said. The imagery, rhyme, and flow are those of the river, Brava. Mike1817

Thank you so much Mike!! I really appreciate your kind words and review, and glad that you enjoyed my musings along the riverbank. It is indeed a fantastic place from which I have many memories! Carol

I read your definition notes (I never heard of any of them, Carol), but by the time I read the poem, I'd forgotten them all. D'OH!

Beautiful river artwork.

Wow - what a wonderful poem. I thought it far too long for my concentration levels, but I was holed from start to finish.

Brilliant imagery of the surroundings, and even the animals that weren't seen. :-)

Just a touch of highbrow, but not too much, and that gives it accomplished class.

Top metaphors and philosophy.

I wish I could write half this well.

Impeccable meter and rhymes.

You are a REAL poet, my friend.

A sixer without doubt!

Cheers, Ray xx

Thanks so much, Ray! I'm glad I didn't overdo the highbrow feel, it's hard to resist sometimes (lol). Yes, it was very long, I wish I'd had more FS dollars to boost it up. Your praise (a real poet!) much appreciated!! xo, Carol

But, gather moments now, a strange bouquet
of all that's passed before and call it life.

that is the best part of the whole piece for me. It rings of life as does the whole piece. The phrases you used and word combinations are so descriptive.

Thank you, Barb, I did want to move the poem beyond just being a nature poem (although nature in itself is magnificent). Carol

This was beautifully moving, as it describes the beauty of the surroundings of that lovely valley where nature so lushly abounds. I loved the flow. I relished the rhymes. I adored the alliteration. It was a pleasure to read.

This was just beautiful and so peaceful and calming-you have no idea how I needed this little trip down the river this a.m. I seriously became involved in it and "got away" for a moment from some stress that I needed to escape. Great work.

I'm glad you found a respite from this trip down the river - we all need that now and then! Some of us more than others. Thank you so much for this kind review :)) Carol

Absolutely loved this poem, Carol. Every moment sitting by the water side is vividly brought to life. I don't know what else to say but great work.

Take care,
Russell

This is a gorgeous piece of lyrical descriptive writing. The scene is painted as clear as any photograph. Even though the romantics are not my personal favourites it is easy to see that you have done something exceptional here that is definitely sixworthy but there has been a lot of good stuff presented both yesterday and today so I have nothing exceptional left to give.

The flow here is beautiful, completely unforced with no rhymes repeated. Nothing is overstated the whole scene is idyllic. There are numerous examples of alliteration but never more than two consecutively on the same letter. If asked to pick a favourite line I would choose "the shelter of a nodding, speckled shade." I love the gentle movement in there and my favourite stanza would be the last that more than hints at the wildness of the winter yet to come.

Thank you for this wonderful review, which I should have responded to days ago. i was tempted to write this as an awdl gwydd, but settled on the ballad style instead- it's somewhat easier to use if you plan to go on and on - lol. The winters up here are fantastic, by the way...big storms, huge ocean, raging rivers. I love it!

I agree the form should suit what you want to say and how you say it otherwise it would sound hopelessly contrived.

This ballad is outstanding, Carol. So beautifully written and illustrated. Where did you get that amazing picture? It works so well with your piece. So much imagery here, lines flow perfectly together. Definitely deserves a six, but here it is Monday and I'm already out. Congratulations on a fabulous poem. Marilyn
