Oh wow, how terrible an experience! Losing a child can never be easy, and harboring the feelings inside must have weighed on your heart. I'm glad you wrote this letter, for you and for the young man responsible.
On the other hand, your son was a very handsome young man, and I can't imagine your pain.
Good luck in the contest,
Rhonda

Thank you. I should have sent this letter many years ago. It took FanStory to wake me up.

I wanted to give you a heads up review. The following is a quote from the contest rules: The letter should have between 150 and 250 words. It should be in the form of a personal letter. These are casual in tone.
Your entry has more than 700 words, and it's signed. Since this is a "blind" contest, the entries cannot identify the writer.
I believe you still have time to make some changes.
This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

Thank you. I have sent the letter. I'm ashamed of myself for waiting so long.

April, your child was a handsome young man and I feel your pain. For one to go so early in life is almost criminal and yet there is no one you can reach out to blame and your pain cannot be shared.
I am sure Tom, who ever or where ever he is has lived with the guilt and pain his whole life. While my son died at 54 and that was only last year, 2015.
I lean on good memories. Giving birth to him, holding him as an infant and as he grew. Watching him become a man I was proud of. There was no one I could blame as my heart cried out for answers.
As you, I still do not understand, but I have found a little thank You God for sharing Edward with me for 54 years. He was with his mom and now has returned to his Abba [daddy].
However, in the 70's my brothers son who are 14 set on the end of a bed attempting to un-jam his fathers shotgun when his best friend grabbed the barrel
and the gun when off. Decapitating his best friend and the memory has wrecked his life. While the courts and the best friends parents forgave him, he has never forgiven himself.
He has wished a thousand plus times that it had been him instead.
I wish I could heal your pain because I sincerely do feel it and I
certainly understand, but you must forgive yourself.
