his stories at times. That was my favorite. Mostly about rubber plantations.

Very many thanks for your review, frierajac. I appreciate your comments. Yes, I've read quite a few of Somerset Maugham's stories. They were of particular interest as my parents lived in the Far East for fifteen years and I spent quite a bit of my childhood in Singapore off and on. Tony

A bit of a boneshaker! I've never been to Israel, but used to fly around the Mediterranean quite regularly- mainly to Malta and Cyprus. Half a century ago!

This reads like poetry! Perhaps your intentions were a prose poem? The alliteration and similar sounds are beautiful to read.

That line is pure poetry. Does this come natural to you? Or do you purposefully search for words to make this magic happen?
Dengue fever sounds like a dreadful illness, and how rude for it to hit during your long awaited leave time.

This is an interesting 'I Remember' entry. Dengue fever is quite something. I never had it as when I flew for Pan Am, we had shots on top of shots for travel. However, friends did get Dengue which was not a good experience for them. Your story is well written and interesting. Much luck in the contest. Marilyn

This is an interesting 'I Remember' entry. Dengue fever is quite something. I never had it as when I flew for Pan Am, we had shots on top of shots for travel. Well you got to see the Camerons which is more than I did, neither did i succumb to the Dengue I am pleased to relate. I did manage Penang and a very ineresting reailway journey up there from Singapore. Flew back with a proper airlaine. Lol. The first paragragraph of your tale is fine descriptive writing. Brought the Ulu back alive in my memory.

I've been posting too much recently and having difficulty clearing the backlog of my reviews. I once made the journey up to Penang by rail - a real touch of old Empire days! BR could have learnt a thing or two!

We've all experienced fevers, but when the context is an exotic country and an all-too-short military leave, the drama is intensified. A great contest entry.
