So aptly penned! I appreciate how the true message of your words are so skillfully hidden behind the mask of your writing. I applaud your courage to pen such an honest message. I don't deny anyone a "fanbase," but when a writer submits the same type of writing, over and over again, even so far as to incorporate the same phrases from previous poems, I have to wonder what is going on! Do not stop writing. You are not "destined to perish" if you keep developing and sharing your craft and believing in yourself and your craft.

Hey, Diane, hi. Thank you so much for the fantastic review and gracious stars. Oh, I know I'll never lose the passion for writing. I added "it's" to that line so everyone knows I'm meaning the passion for competition. Plus, I added a few words to the "fanbase" line to make it a little clearer. It's not 'all' their fans, just the few who repeatedly vote for no one else's work. I've been on here many years and the contests are the only reason I stay. I've learned about as much as I'm going to on this site, except for learning how to spell, I guess. Haha. Thank you for pointing out my goofs. But it's just discouraging to see the same people win over and over and over, when the people who voted for them didn't even take the time to bother to even "look" at the other entries. When their name is displayed, I could understand it but when it's a blind contest and it happens there's something a little suspicious going on there. I dearly appreciate the review, Diane. I'm glad you liked my poetic rant, lol. Have a wonderful weekend.

However, recently I am becoming more and more disinterested mainly due to the unfairness. As you have stated it's largely due to the fanbase accumulated by some of the writers. I think there should be a cut-off point for the number of fans each writer can have, but like many other things that will never happen.
Please promote this piece as much as you possibly can to allow many members to read your words of wisdom. You definitely have my vote. Hell, I would vote for you 5 times if I could. I wish you the best of luck in the contest...Bill

Thank you for the fantastic review and big sixer, Bill. I've been on the site 10 year as well and that's the only reason I've stayed so long...the contests. I've learned about as much as I ever will on this site but contest competitions are what I enjoy most on here. But when people go vote for their friends without even bothering to read my piece, what's the point? They could at least click on everyone's work to give the illusion they read it before voting. Now if it's a contest that shows the author's name I could expect this. But when it's a 'blind' contest and it still happens they must think we're stupid. Somehow, someway they give their little hints to their fans or maybe even just call them on the phone. I can't see their fans just happening to check their portfolio every day just to see if there's a blind contest so they can run and vote for them. I've had about enough of it. I rarely enter contests anymore. It's discouraging when it happens over and over and over. I left for a good while just to see it happening even worse when I came back. You're right, it'll never change and there's nothing I can do about it except rant once in a while, lol. I really appreciate the generous stars, friend. I'm glad you liked the piece. Thank you again. It was very interesting. I liked how you repeated the first stanza in the last stanza. There were portions where you had a lot of descriptive detail and then it felt like some of that fell off and I was no longer enmeshed within your poem. I did like your commentary on a system that is supposed to be blind not being based on a fan base, not talent.

It was very interesting. I liked how you repeated the first stanza in the last stanza. I've always viewed competitions as a good thing because it keeps every on their toes and makes sure you offer the very best you can offer. You have a point of view here and you have put forward your argument in a clever free verse poem, I wish you luck with the contest, love Dolly x
