A difficult one to rate, this. I did find it slightly amusing, that idea of being sucked into the (playful) competition of fanstory rankings, contests, etc. despite our best efforts to convince ourselves we're above all that malarkey. It's something most of us can relate to on here. But I'm afraid this "free verse" write just didn't do anything for me as a poem. Far too many line breaks, endless lists, too much upper case and/ or bold lettering, and a choppy stream-of-consciousness voice that seemed neither prose nor poem. I realise you're just having a bit of fun here, and that's fine. But I'll be honest and admit I don't see anything poetic here.
Amusing, yes. Poetic, no. Sorry.

As you said, "I am having a bit of fun here." The prompt called for a response on how an individual regards competition. I imagined a rather frenetic individual - tired of all the number of inequities found in certain "blind competitions" on this site - responding to the prompt.

Isn't it just a wee bit funny the monster a little success in your writing can tend to turn you into? Here you are minding your own business, without much of a care in the world, and WHAM! The metamorphosis you undergo by the end of the poem completely changes you into an extremely competitive person ready to do battle against all comers. BRING IT ON! That is definitely what competition is all about. Well written, and should make a grand entry into this contest. Fits almost all FanStorians, to a tee, don't it?

When we receive an unfair appraisal of our work, our ego is bruised and we consider the reviewer to be an idiot and a hater. We read the next review expecting the worse, but after reading five or six in a row that is positive and encouraging, we than quickly change our view of the reviewing process.

A very well-written poem about competing in contests. Contests are mostly for writers who are more skilled in writing. The ones who struggle to get their words in perfect order have less chance.
