Somebody very well said, "Hunting is savage pleasure,"-I always thought that farmers keep guns as well, but reading your verse, I guess not. Enjoyed the rhyme and rhythm in the farmer's lament, thank you for sharing and congratulations!

Thank you, ameen, for sharing ?A Farmer?s Lament.? I am delighted you enjoyed the poem and appreciate the praise and congrats. Some farmers do hunt themselves; others do not own weapons of any kind. Rod

Nice try, RodG. Well, RodG, I hope you try a little harder to protect the wildlife. What about putting up barb wire fences or shooting up in the air when you see intruders or shooting off fire crackers to warn animals and scare intruders. NICE WRITE. liberty justice

Thank you, Liberty, for sharing my lament. Determined hunters will use wire cutters on barb wire and disregard signs. Rod

Hello RodG,
Thank you for penning this incredibly well-crafted poem filled with keen visual and emotive imagery. I know the argument for hunting; I hate it. There. I've said it. I see no reasons for it in this day and age. And yet, the bloodlust continues even on property clearly marked "No Hunting Here!"

Thank you!

Thank you so much, Diane, for your wonderful praise of ?A Farmer?s Lament.? I am delighted by the response I have received from others like you who abhor hunting on clearly marked ?No hunting? sites. I also much appreciate the six glowing stars. Rod

Nothing worse than trespassers encroaching on your land to kill game and wildlife.
That's when you break out your Barret .50 cal, sight 'em in and blow their poaching heads off their shoulders.
Tends to make 'em think twice before they trespass on your property again.
Nicely composed Quatrain.

Well, your solution might be a tad drastic, Dean, but I must admit it sounds good to me. Many thanks for sharing my quatrain and your kind praise.

Very good balance and form! I appreciate your choice of subject, even though I myself am a hunter. I do not appreciate those who choose to ignore your posters, thinking themselves superior. They are wrong. At any rate, a fine poem, and I liked it very much.

This caught my ear, and while it is in a done to death format that has been around for centuries, it is correct and what made it stand a little taller than many others was the pained voice. It comes across as very honest, and we feel your pain here. It might be orchestrated a bit better, tightened, and some of the images, while good, could dig a bit deeper with more focus to have even greater impact. I would point you towards Seamus Heaney, and his poem Dawn Shoot, which this reminded me of. You'll find it in Death of a Naturalist, his first book. Read it and reread it, and try to uncover what Heaney is really saying here, in a subtle and subconscious way. estory

A very well-written quatrain poem. The world is already in trouble caused by human ignorance. The few that try to stop the madness from destroying the earth is plainly just ignored.

Perfect quatrains. Rhymes of quality, meter perfect, subject matter so emotional. That the faithful farmer would bear the guilt for the joy of the hunt trespassers steal 'bout brings me to my poet's knees.

I really enjoyed reading this poem although I found it very sad and poignant. Very well written.
I think it should do really well in the competition. Good luck and best wishes. Jen.

Thank you, Jen, for sharing my lament. Indeed such incidents happen all to often in many rural areas.
