Your poem should be published for all to read. I was unaware of this unusual ship that held prisoners. My father served three years of combat in WWII and he did come home. I applaud you for writing about your uncle.

This is a very well written suite of 5-7-5 poems telling of this brave soldier and his ending. You used very good descriptive words and beautiful art work. Blessings, Teri

Cheers, Contestant;
-first thing I found when I read your authors notes, which I usually do every poem, I noticed You had the word were in this line and you can take it out and write it as such: "Author's Notes: Sgt. William A. Kenel, U. S. Army Air Corps, was among the 12,000 American soldiers who {xWEREx} surrendered" Omit the 'were'.
-Your poem is so touching in the author's notes just blew me away of their heroism of these these men and such a man was definitely beyond the call of duty.
-Your simple free verse piece of poetry is one where a person can follow the enjambment very well, which makes the reading easy and fluid and also, makes it really easy to read and understand.
-Thanks for sharing such great touching tribute, written with great intensity and fervor at humbly honoring these men who have sacrificed everything for everyone
at a time and place with time didn't stand still, but dragged on exponentially.
-Take care and have a good one and good luck in the contest.

    Hello Alex!
    Thank you for your thoughtful review. In truth, the soldiers ?were? surrendered by the officers in charge to their Japanese captors; they did not surrender themselves. That is what makes this situation even more poignant. Additionally, the 1700 prisoners could have been rescued by the other Japanese destroyers in the convoy that day; they refused to do so...

    All I must have not Relayed my message clearly I knew that they had been captured I'm sorry if I said that they gave themselves up. In no way that I think of thought that. But thanks for questioning and it's good to communicate.
    Great writing, overall. Take care and have a good one. The Japanese were not a compassionate people or leaves their warriors weren't.

Well done with this. It's most gratifying to know a man, though suffering can still retain his faith and see beauty in the sunset. You've done well, sticking to the strict regime of 5/7/5 stanzas, and achieving this msrvellous entry in this contest. Well done, good luck, blessings Roy
