I just adore animal stories, especially when the author gets into the character of the other species. You did this very well. Did you actually see a "Jedrek" in the road on your journey? Or on the beach? You did make me feel Jedrek's challenging journey, and I was routing for him. Well done, Y.M. Best, RFL (Rona)

Thank you so very much for your review, Rona! And, yes, there are countless Jedrek's in my past and, most likely, in the future -- and every one of them that I can help, I am the car (that metal storm) that stops near-by, runs (click clack of shoes approaching) out into the road, and puts Jedrek all the way safely to the other side (the one that he is facing)!! Crazy, I know, but even nearly 30 years ago when my husband and I were still dating, I made him stop on one of our earlier lunch dates so that I could get out and put a really nice sized Jedrek (took both hands!) to the other side......yep! High-heels and all.....I'm guessing that's the nutty blonde in me, but whatever!!! ;) ;) :)

Again thank you for cheering for Jedrek, and thank you for the wonderful six stars!! :) :) :)

Very clever. I like how Jedrek thinks in poetry: "Yes, he would have her - with her twinkling eyes and elegant neck. This was not his first rodeo, and the thought of riding her beauty propelled him forward." Nicely done! :)

Thank you so very much for your five-stars, Phyllis!! So glad you found more to Jedrek than just a "shell" -- lol! Thank you again!

An excellent little story from the battling tortoise's POV. Three metal storms to survive ... and then a fourth one, which even hovers nearby for longer than usual! I liked the remark about the smell of the road, associated as it is with both sex and death. As with a salmon struggling upstream to mate, the challenge of this dangerous crossing makes Jedrek more worthy and attractive. He will deserve those "twinkling eyes and elegant neck" in the morning. Well written!

Thank you so very much for your detailed review, Draco! (I hope that does not offend -- not meant to, I promise) :) :) I do so covet honest reviews with enough detail that it truly helps my craft -- and I hope Jedrek made you smile the same way he did me all those times I've helped him across the roads and by-ways near home! lol

Thank you again and have a wonderful weekend!

The risks men will take in pursuit of happiness, life and death shit, what if she actually turns him down... that could happen, you think you've done enough, you're all excited, proud of yourself and...NO!! Not in a million years , don't think so. The walk back would be brutal, ha ha. I thoroughly enjoyed the creativity of your story friend, it made me smile : )

Thank you so much for those honest reflections, Hitcher -- I am in total agreement with all of it!! Being a mom of three boys has given me a perspective on such things that words on paper never could -- and you have certainly nailed their (and their mom's!!!) sentiment on the whole "love's pursuit" thing! At least one of them has "caught" one .... at least it seems so for now!

Thank you again, and I am so very glad Jedrek made you smile -- that was my intention all along!! Blessings!

What a swwt story and so cleverly written.
At the beginning I did some head scratching trying to figure out who this Jedrek bloke was - stupid me, I should have taken a second look at the photo. Then it clicked by the second storm.

My husband is another one who'll stop for Jedreks, pick them up and bring them to he other side of the road. I'll ask him if they've all been Jedreks or whether there might have been a Jedreka as well.

Really enjoyed the story.

Thank you so very much for your review! It was a fun story to write because I am just like your husband: I stop and bring them to the side they are facing.....and now that we've moved out into the country, I find myself doing it more often! :) Ha! And you're right, I guess I could take the time to look at the bottom of the shell to see if it's a "miss" or a "mister" -- I'll be sure to do it next time!

Again, thanx for finding the smile I had hidden in the piece -- hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I think this is an excellent entry for the Flash Fiction writing prompt.
We were with Jedrek the whole way, and just when it seemed all was lost, he made it.
Well done and good luck to you with the competition.
Sharon
