Aryr, I thought I'd pop in to have a read. I am glad I did. This piece on FanStory Review has some valid points and is well thought out. I agree with your observations. As adults we should act accordingly and do what we came on this site to do... which is write. An enjoyable and open read. Thank you for sharing. ~DD

Well said, new friend. Pretty sure we have not met before...that rhymes too, hehe. As I read I find a kindred spirit saying a lot of what I have said but in a newer more enlightened way than my ravings and so on. Good on you mate or matess...hehe from Australia. I want to know who the committee actually are as well.

As I read I find a kindred spirit saying a lot of what I have said but in a newer more enlightened way than my ravings and so on. Good on you mate or matess...hehe from Australia. Thank you so much for reading and then taking the time to review. I guess I would be what you call a matess from the USA but originally from Canada. So what part of the Australia, if I may ask? Oh I do know the time difference is about 14 hours. It is 830 am here as I type this. I agree I would love to know who is on the committee, but I am sure that in regards to voting it is the actual members if they have voting rights and sign up for it. But decisions are based on a committee or owners of the site. At least that is what I understand.

I'd like to think in the big scheme of things, we are all writing children. He to grow and stretch and become the writing Adults of the future. But, sadly, you're right, that's not the case. There are those who have more to say then is afforded the rest of us. Isn't that society though. There's always a hierarchy. As long as you write for you, the rest eventually falls into place. Thanks for your perspective and good luck in the contest. I, was, one of those here from its creation but took a long hiatus. I've only just returned days ago.

I guess this site is what you make of it. Of course there are cliques. I feels like that will be anywhere but when you look at the writing aspect, the growth, etc., it's great. I loved what you said about not waiting for contests to be inspired. It's so true but something the contests do strike something in us. Great job and good luck in the contest

You have said what I back up totally. It seems to me that those with quality work and no money to buy pumps etc. miss out on the honours. There is a clique that stick together, win contest and I have asked for change... i.e exclude professional writers from contests. To no avail. Someone at the top can't see the damage it causes. Money speaks as does professional writers'.

100% right. Reviews are the only way a writer has of knowing whether his work has any value....IF the reviews are honest. That's all I've wanted my entire life was to have someone read my work and tell me what they think. My own family has never read the novels I've written.

Wow, I wish I could say that it was a shame that your family hasn't read but I was in a similar place until someone wise suggested that I hint that I was having the royalties change (not that I did or would), boy did they not only read but they offered constructive comments. Yeah, I know, sneaky. lol.

I don't think that would entice my family. Even when I was winning writing contests in college (I was almost 40 when I finally got to go). I asked why one time and was told, I was deliberately making them look stupid in doing something they couldn't do. Made no sense, but...
It was the same with making dean's list every semester. "We know you're smarter than us, don't rub it in."
I did everything in my power to bring out their individual talents through the years, and they had talents. But they never developed any pride in my accomplishments so I quit expecting any. Oh well, maybe that's why I crave getting reviews on fanstory so much.

Now, that I'd greatly appreciate. Just got home from hospital. Went shopping earlier and tripped taking groceries into house. When I fall, I fall like a ton of bricks. Within an hour my knee was a balloon and I couldn't walk. It was excruciating. Had to call for an ambulance but a friend brought me home and settled me in before leaving. She can't come back for a few days so I don't know how I'm gonna cope. Hosp. gave me crutches and my friend brought me a walker, but until some of the pain goes away I'm gonna be up the creek LOL. At least I can type, but my dog's going to be crossing her legs a lot.

Oh my goodness, how awful. I am sure neighbors and friends will step up and assist. Please do take care. I will keep healing thoughts for you. Hey get someone to pick up doggy diapers, they do work.

to review with honesty -- I wish. Seems everyone gets fives so it's lost value. A six still holds its own where ratings are concerned.
Making friends--again that's not going to happen if you rate their work less than four.
It's a pat on the back site, but I don't care. In my six years, I have learned a lot from reviewers who take time to correct my errors and point out phrases that don't work.

Though, I don't personally agree with the judging sometimes, I can understand why friends vote for friends. Yet, to be perfectly honest, my eyes see and perceive what I desire. And that is the way with almost all poets and writers. What I see as better another person may not agree. This is an good entry for the FanStory contest.

Very insightful, Alie as well as a good read. I've been with FanStory for about a year and have read many stories and poems.
