This poem resonated on many levels with me. I grew up with a Gram and Auntie who had so much love it seemed to surround my brother and I and kept us safe and happy. Those old times were hard, but I never heard either of those women complain. I think hard work helped me believe a woman could do anything... and did!

This is a wonderful acrostic poem. It flows so beautifully that I wouldn't have even looked for the acrostic structure had I not seen that it was a contest entry. Good luck in the contest - I truly hope this one does well!

A wonderful tribute to Grandma, a terrific acrostic poem, and a delight to read! Also, a most worthy contest entry.

Wishing you the recognition such an accomplishment deserves,

Don

Such a lovely tribute to your grandmother who defined what life is all about - we make the best of what we have and never complain. That is why those days were golden - not because it was easy, but because it would have been easier to give up. They did not - she did not. And it's those memories that become an important part of the tapestry of our lives. Thank you for sharing - should do well in the contest.

This is a very good example of a difficult style. I entered an acrostic contest once, but my entry was rejected. They said SDKFHRUFVBB isn't a word. I say it is.

I know I certainly would! There was so much more cleaning/cooking/mending/gardening to be done. But it was work that was loved, for a family that was loved. How blessed are those who remember these simpler times!! I love this!
Blessings...

WOW...I really LOVE this. So beautifully written and such a tribute to your grandma and the "good old days." Your poem was such a "story" and I liked that so much. What a great rhyming pattern, as well. Best of luck in the contest. This is a wonderful entry.

Me too, Idamarty, me too. And in a heartbeat, I might add.
This reads so smoothly for an acrostic that had I not seen what sort of contest this was written for I might not have known it was an acrostic piece.
From what I've been told by those who are more in-the-know concerning the acrostic form than I am, that's a good thing.
This is a lovely ode to your beloved grandmother and a touching tribute to grandparents everywhere.
Bravo!

    Hi Dean,

Always glad to hear your thoughts on my writing! So glad you enjoyed it! I would go back anytime as well, in fact I am seriously thinking of finding a piece of property somewhere and doing what my grandma used to do! Thank you again and have a wonderful day!

I enjoyed this poem of yours, very much. My grandmother was similar to your grandmother. She did not bestow a lot of physical affection, but she showed it in so many ways. she was the rock in our family. "The Good Old Days" would not have been the same without her. I wish you well.

    Hello,

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing and for the six stars, I truly appreciate them! I hear ya when you talk about the lack of ''physical affection''. I think, way back then, the doing was their way of showing how much they loved and cared about their family. Thank you again and have a great day!
