You did a good job with your acrostic contest entry, Idmarty. I like the presentation--the color scheme, the picture, the formatting of lines, & your message. I agree life did seem better in our grandparents'' time. What a thought to be able to revisit that time. but we can in our memories. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes. Jan

You did a marvelous job telling the story about your Grandma and the good ole days in an acrostic poem form. You added a bit of rhyme and a smidgen of near rhyme to add to the tone. Well done my friend. It should be there among the winners if not the one. :) Nancy

This is such a lovely poem filled with love and cherished memories. Your grandmother sounds like a very strong and inspiring lady, and reminds me of my Nana. Your rhymes make the words flow beautifully and I could picture the farm house where you have such fond childhood memories, and that faithful rocking chair. Thanks for sharing x

You acknowledge that rhyme is somehow built in to your psyche and this, written in couplets is clear evidence of that. There is also evidence here of a natural approach to metre that is also evident in many famous published poets, although they frequently break the metrical rules so beloved of fanstory.

This rolls along mainly in heptameters, slipping effortlessly from iambic to trochaic and back, a hallmark of the 'natural' poet rather than one drilled into a strictly mathematical interpretation of metre. As a result you may find yourself taken to task by the 'Metre Nazis' on this site, but for poems such as this I would advise your natural style is almost certainly the most effective.

A clever acrostic and a fine story of Grandma rocking in her chair in her apron covered frock after working hard, lovely sentiments and I wish you luck with the acrostic poetry contest, love Dolly x

Great imagery, filled with tender moments and fondness for Grandma. That sense of being safe and calm around another is hard to forget. Some people have that charm about them that is there not to forget.
good penning, enjoyed the memories.

Life always seems easier in childhood. It does seem as children we never see or ignore the hard work adults do to gain a little rest in the rocking chair. But his grandma is also working on her knitting in the chair.

Good choice of artwork.

Keep writing and good luck in the contest.

A very well-written poem about the olden days when we were still children and we observed our parents and grandparents how they manage to get through their days without complaints. Today, we know they did not have an easy time as it looks from a child's eyes.

A slice of social history beautifully and evocatively portrayed in a poem and in an Acrostic - every line lives on the page with vivid detail and such a haunting pic
