I haven't counted the words, but otherwise you have obviously met the requirements of the contest. It's an impressive feat. This would make a good beginning to a longer story or even a book.

What sets this one apart is your ATTENTION TO DETAIL as you set the scene. We get the feeling that this took place in another era. This also would be a good beginning for something longer.
