A fantastic entry for the horror poetry contest, I'm not surprised it was voted the winner because it has everything you could want in a horror poem. I mean, Dracula is the ultimate Halloween type character isn't he. He's legendary, and your descriptions of his lair and harrowing appearance brings him to life in our mind. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review of ?Dracula Awakens,? Hayley. He?s still my favorite horror creature to write about. Rod
Comment from Gloria ....
Excellent horror poem, Rod. Dracula has always fascinated and frightened us in equal measure, or perhaps unequal measure, but your poem has fully captured those fangs, that coffin and that fear.
Great job with a finely metred and rhymed poem and congratulations on your win. :)

Dracula has always fascinated me, too, Gloria. I am delighted you enjoyed my short description of that famous scene we all remember. Rod

An excellent effort with some great imagery along the way.
I can't help but think that Verse 3 was written while looking at that very photo. It's perfect and exactly as described. You've also used several of my favorite poetic words in dank and slake. Better and better.
Your rhyme is good, the word count fine... and the story is interesting and complete. Well done.

A very well-written hundred word horror poem about Dracula and how he rise up from the death and get from his tomb to terrorize the world's woman with his sharp teeth.

Comment from Karol Bond
Very well done. Great imagery and flow. The picture you chose was a good choice although I imagine depending on your age some have no clue who the actor is. Good luck with the contest. ;)

Thank you so much for your kind praise of ?Dracula Awakes,? Karol. Indeed, this photo comes from one of the Hammer Films made in the 60s with Christopher Lee as Dracula. My favorite Dracula was Jack Palance.
Comment from Lance Polin
I would ordinarily give this piece 4 stars, but your convincing accomplishment in following the precise limitations deserves acknowledgment. Other than that--I don't know--I just don't care for vampires.

Thank you, Lance, for staying objective while reviewing ?Dracula Awakes.? I do not like any of the modern vampires such as those in the TV series TWILIGHT, but I?ll still watch the movies made in the 60s.

This is really well done...impressive! Vampires are in my top ten of horror characters, so I liked this a lot. Also one of my favorite horror movies back in the day. Best of luck to you in the contest.

I am delighted ?Dracula Awakes? was enjoyable for you. Vampires from the old classic horror movies like this one (Christopher Lee) are still among my favorites, too.

Comment from Dean Kuch
Unless you happen to be a vampire from the film Twilight's fame where they are not adversely affected by sunlight, you're right.
The original vampire legends claimed sunlight would destroy a vampire, burning it to a crisp.
Then, the writers of the Twilight series bastardized those legends and changed all the rules.
I prefer to adhere to the old legends concerning vampires myself.
An excellent entry for the 100 word horror poetry contest. Good abcb rhyme scheme throughout.
Best of luck!
