A very well-written poem about not showing your cards to the enemy and fool them by thinking you have the better cards and the best chance to win and they give up before seeing your cards.

When I was in the US, my New York family, comprising My daughter, son in law Nick, Elaine, my wife, and three grandsons. Visited the major civil war battlefiields, had a fantastic time. Well done writing this poem about a civil war hero. Beautifully written. In couplet rhyming, with proximates, well done, blessings, Roy

Thank you Roy. Out of all the Civil War heroes I admire Chamberain the most, he embodied what every leader should strive to be. Thank you for taking the time to read and the great review.

Being Australian I wasn't aware of this factual story, though I have a good knowledge of the Civil War itself (having visited Gettysburg, Vicksburg and various other famous sites). Quite inspiring stuff.

I have almost no interest in meter myself. To me it's all about word choice, story, imagery and some kind of rhythm. It's not an insult to say you write like a storyteller. Some people just do. However, you ARE telling a story.

Importantly, you manage to tell your story effectively. Still a good effort.

Thank you for reading and reviewing my work. I would take i write like a storyteller as a high compliment, because that was what I was aiming to do.watch the movue Gettysburg, it depicts Chamberlain's actions perfectly.

Good job, Mystery Author, with your contest entry. Your words flow well with a great story/message. Your picture choice is a great pairing with your word. too. Do you think this rhyming poem will be okay for the 'free verse' criteria? I'm not sure--I would think not. but ho knows what the CEC will think. You could add some words at the end to lose the rhyme. It is ok to have a few rhymes in free verse just no set pattern. This is just my opinion--don't change because of me. Best wishes. Jan

Im cool with what i did. Im not really into this for winning contests, just to improve as a writer. I see roo many of thd free verse poems that look like they had strung 25 different words together that made no sense.

haha. Many free verse look like just words on a page or rambling nothingness. I was just offering my 2 cents. Jan

And to think when the majority of us hear the name 'Chamberlain', we automatically think about the BIG appeaser, Neville. This guy's story needs to be told so as to win back the dignity of his family name! :) :) :) Great job here and wonderful choice! :) Thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest! :)

Thank you. What i daid st the bottom is true, the Army leadership manual expouns upon the way he was able to get men to do the difficult task with no ammo. Its almost as big a miracle as Dunkirk.

How I wish I had a history teacher who could tell stories like this! I may have learned something! Its clever how you summarized an event and brought out the funny of it. Best of luck in the contest!

Thank you. I happen to be a history teacher. I thought the Chamberlain charge scene depicted in the movie Gettysburg was perfect. I appreciate you taking time out to read and review my stuff, I have some more posted on Fanstory.
