Excellent pulling together of some loose ends, Tony. You are deft at leaving clues to pique your reader's interest, and particularly that there is more to Helen than meets the eyes.

An excellent read and now off to the next part. :)

Hi Tony
The interest remains in this chapter as some mystery is infused with the mysterious painting and the note.
I like the introduction of the secrets between Helen and Charles and the cloak and dagger tailing of Helen.
Blessings
Shirley

Whoops. Waited too long to get points on this. The note regarding Brandon moves the story along. Kind of a sneak not to let Helen see it.

-Very nice artwork, Tony, notes are appreciated.
-The chapter flows well from beginning
to end, and it is filled with mysteries:
Alain, the letter, the message to
Charles, JD, and Helen.
-More than likely it is the same
two mysterious men, as well.
-I have to give credit to Charles for his
fast thinking in saying that Helen was his niece.
-Then, we learn that he didn't even know
that Helen had been at the hospital.
-You are turning into a regular Agatha Christie!
-The ending is very good, as Charles
puts a plan into action.
-Now, we just have to wait and see how
his plan goes, and what the next
'scene' with Helen will be!

Thanks for your encouraging comments, Pam, and for the six stars. The next instalment may be a bit delayed but I have it more or less mapped in my mind.

You are very welcome, Tony. There is no hurry for your chapter; better to be happy with it first. I will be busy on Thurs. and part of the morning on Fri. Hope all is well with you.

Hello Tony,
The mystery thickens.
La Blanchisseuse - The Laundress, wonderful Lautrec, perhaps his best
and that's Carmen Gaudin, reason enough to pursue the story.
So we finally learn a bit about the two dark suits following them,
maybe related to Jean Durand.
"That's most irritating." I'm not sure if that is what someone would say learning his sister was released from the hospital.
You've used one of those words that irate parents so much..."whatever."
Excellent chapter, excellent story.

Many thanks for your review, Robert, and for the six stars. Much appreciated, as always. Your right about 'irritating' - I need to find a more appropriate word there.
I imagine Charles would have been a bit irritated by Helen's response, 'Whatever' - she seems not to have lost that teenage ability to get under the skin!

This chapter had it all! A nice twist of the plot redirecting the suspicion back to Helen! Her dramatic response to the flyer was exaggerated, possibly contrived? Time will tell. Always flawless writing and delivery by Mr. Tony! Enjoy your sixer today!
All my best,
Sally

The level of intrigue ratchets up a notch in this mysterious chapter. I think you did a good job of weaving in the involvement of Helen with Durand, the threatening message, and that mysterious black Citroen who is following Charles. Also the Lautrec painting could be a motive for some of the relatives, and it adds a bit of romantic suspense and mystery to the thickening plot. Good crisp dialogue. This seems more on track than some of the previous chapters. I'm not sure if all those excursions to Asia serve the story well. They seem more like distractions, and the story seems more focused in Paris. estory

Many thanks, estory, for your encouraging review. Much appreciated, as always. Thanks, too, for your comment about Helen's background story. I'm planning for the two stories to converge, but may have to do some ruthless revision if that doesn't work out as I intend. Best wishes, Tony

I am about to board a ship, and I am almost out of batteries. I just wanted to send a short note letting you know how very awesome your story is.
This is sheer enjoyment for me.

Great descriptions as the two vehicles leave - Fifi bunny hopped away but the Citroen eased out smoothly. Love the humour scattered between the drama and mystery.
Interesting chapter with trouble brewing between Charles and Helen.
cheers,

Fun how every French speaking area of Europe has a "Gare du Nord." I like how you are building up the questions and suspense, Tony. I laughed aloud at the comment about "envelope pinching."
