Hi Tony,
Wow! An abduction certainly ups the ante.
I have no knowledge of France in terms of places but the story line carries forward well without any loss of momentum regardless of this.
Yet again interest is piqued and I am hooked into the next chapter.

It is not clear whether Helen is in league with the dark suits and JD or being Helennapped, (we must remember Charles intercepted the note she was supposed to get about the meeting.)
The chase scene was well done, knocking down the cyclist will probably be attributed to the crazy Americans. Loved the part with the old bewhiskered man and horse cart. Would be a great scene in a movie. lol Lots of local color.
"What now?" This could be the author, Charles, or the reader.
The next chapter should be interesting.

Another six stars! You are very kind, Robert. The wording of the note was intentionally somewhat ambiguous. ('Get rid of Brandon. See you as arranged, noon tomorrow. JD') 'Get rid of' could mean anything from don't bring him along to murder him. Charles wasn't going to take any chances by showing Helen that! 'See you as arranged' indicates that Helen knew of the meeting anyway, and that this was just a reminder. However, the fact that is was delivered by the two men in black is unexplained at this stage. Maybe soon! Who knows?

After a rather slow start for Charles while waiting for Helen to appear, things certainly get going when she's bustled into a car by two men. Nice scene setups with the dialogue with neighbour, Monsieur Gerard, and great descriptions as he tries to catch up with the Citroen. Great place to finish the chapter. Well written Tony, a good read

This is definitely six-star writing. The verbs are creative, yet strong and natural-sounding and the use of detail creates such vivid scenes, I am certain I can see exactly what is going on. I must have missed a chapter. I thought long of why this was worth a six star. In opposition to some work where action and thrills attack from all directions, and I came to the conclusion it was the taste of culture,a rather 'Garbo' style narrative that suits a more laid back, quiet Sunda, time on hands, with a sip of the local wine.
Imagery in abundance, where the narrative allows for a recipe in the garden, or a quiet read in front of a log burned fire.
Great writing, more enjoyable for those who are able to see and feel the culture attached.

Just expert writing. The whole piece, but this was so clever!
Sigh, I wish I had a six left. Know, if I did, this would be worthy of that extra star. It was full of fast paced intrigue and rich language. Clean and vivid descriptors which were insightful to the reader. This chapter, for me, was by far the most suspenseful and I look forward to the next installment ... Hmmm, yes, what now?
