This is a very nice poem. It gives images of what once was, and the life of a young man gone too soon. So sad to hear, but the memories you have will make him live in.

This is such a sad poem of loss and grief and I felt your sorrow in these words as you still keep this person's belongings to remind you of his life. A skilful post, love Dolly x x x

Congrats on your contest win! This is so sad, not least because he was only 26 and a lovely looking young man. I'm not sure what relation he was to you but the obvious heartache you still feel is poignantly conveyed in your fine verse. There's something about a person's possessions after they've passed that is so difficult to come to terms with. On the one hand, we want to be reminded, on the other, it's often too painful and final. You've beautifully and sensitively captured this ambivalence here (Sharon?) and I applaud you for this wonderful tribute. Take care Debbie

He was a family friend. He died in a car accident, and his parents donated his organs. Matt was a very gifted musician. Thank you for reading.

sorry for your loss - yea, the hurt never goes away... just lessens slightly...
this was a nice remembrance poem
i do have a suggestion about using "behind the door" as a refrain maybe beginning every stanza? eh just a thought lol...
thank you for sharing

I thought this was an excellent response to this writing prompt! You have managed to write something that will undoubtedly touch hearts and be found relatable by many. You did an exceptional job of capturing the essence of a person, showing his stored things that spoke so eloquently of the life he once lived, and how missed he now is. I liked this very much, even though it was sad. Good luck in the contest.

What a hauntingly beautiful poem. I am so sorry for the loss of Matthew. His life was filled with so much value (those are his items and his love you've kept). Grief is one confusing and difficult journey.

This poem takes one right into the scene. And shows the emotions of the person who's talking about all the contents behind the closet door... this is a Very good entry for the contest! Good luck
