that is really beautifully and well written!
Is it true, an unknown grave under the ivy?
Your words are truly those of a poet.
Though sad, it is a most enjoyable read.
Thanks for writing it and good luck in the contest.

There must be such a grave somewhere. I don't know where this came from. It just popped in my head. Thank you for a wonderful review. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

What a wonderful poem which I surely enjoyed reading. Presentation, theme, wording and flow are all great. I'm not sure what a chain poem is and will have to look it up. Good luck in the contest with this fine entry. Marilyn

aaba, bbcb, ccdc, dddd -- chain rhyme. I should have put in the notes, but I think we weren't supposed to do that. Thank you for reviewing. I'm happy you like it.

Hi Yvonne. I did see that on the contest site. I wondered if "chain" meant like the "loop" poem with some sort of repetition. I gave some consideration to entering this one, but will most likely pass it by. Your poem is wonderful, though. Marilyn

You should give it a go.

I seem to remember adversely criticising a previous effort of yours to do a chain rhyme - correct me if I am wrong. Well there is nothing to criticise in this one. The chaining rhymescheme laid down is followed perfectly and apparently with fine flow and ease. Nothing here seems contrived as the sad story unfolds.
This is a fine poem appropriately placed as we approach Remembrance day once again.
