I like the way you've approached the rhyming in this fun story. You mix it up, and yet it flows beautifully, I think the nativity story is so much more fun with a cat. Luckily it wasn't a male cat, or it might have called the baby "Son". Was that a sexist assumption?

I'd never heard the song "Feliz Navidad" until we started playing it in ukulele group a month or so ago. It's not my favourite carol lol

Very fine work with this, Dawn. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you so much, Craig! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed this one -- I loved writing it too, although it DID take some work to get it exactly how I wanted it. :))

Hi Dawn. What a nice poem. Cats are very special and mystical. Loved your poem about the wonderful kitty and Mary choosing to let Baby Jesus hold the kitty. Delightful story poem. Marilyn

Hi Dawn. This is a wonderful poem where you explain some of the myths about the domestic cat. It's a well know fact that The Egyptians of ancient Egypt were in deep awe of the cat. I just love them. Great poem, Dawn. All the best. Ulla:)))

A very well-written story in a poem and a great history of the origin of our household cats today. No wonder they still think they have royal blood and everyone has to bow down to them.

I'm always fascinated when I read stories of cats in ancient Egyptian folklore ... Ancient Egyptian deities were depicted and sculptured with cat-like heads, representing justice, fertility and power.
This is both interesting and creative, so well written and unique in its subject of choice.
This sort of writing is what makes you so special among the writers here Dawn, always thinking outside the box.
Fantastic

How fun! You've added to all the other extra biblical folklore about who was there to greet Christ at the manger. And why not? God loves cats, too! Great job!

I enjoyed reading your poem/story contest entry. I fall asleep almost every night with one of the boys sharing my pillow, whoever gets there first, and the sound of their purring is soothing. Thank you for sharing and I wish you the best of luck.

Many thanks for your holiday story with its feline theme. I enjoyed your mostly rhymed, tercet format and the perfect, parallel pictures. I have always found a cat's purr mystical. Cheers and best wishes in the contest- Joan

I wish I still had a six left, Dawn, this is lovely. I love anything to do with cats, they are the most loving creatures, and perhaps a tad bossy, but aww, where would we be without them? I had never heard of felis silvestri, so I just Googled it to find out what kind they are. It's very interesting to learn these things. Your poem was enchanting, just like our feline friends. I adored the rhyme scheme, it had me swaying to the rhythm as I read it aloud. Well done, my friend, absolutely lovely. xxxx Sandra
