You do have less than the 17 syllables for the haiku. I think rather than say "fall" in the first line, use the word "cover" (like a bed cover) to extend the metaphor.

This is lovely Janet. Those soft fluffy flakes of snow are a warm blanket to keep the flowers cozy until spring.

Excellent haiku and I wish you much luck with the Contest Committee. :)

haiku(snowflakes fall), is short, succinct and very much to the point. Between each line of this talented poet's work are woven the golden threads of truth. You KEEP WRITING and I'll KEEP READING. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Oh, I can't wait until my sleeping beauties wake up in the spring! Just a few more months - meanwhile, I will stay inside where it's nice and warm - and watch the snow blanket the flower beds. Well done.

Your lovely haiku has a fairy-tale quality ending. "Sleeping beauties" was a standout line for me. Your haiku poem is nicely formatted and is a wonderful entry for the upcoming contest. I wish you lots of luck.

A lovely well written Haiku. You paint a beautiful picture within those three lines, and 17 syllables. The photo is perfectly matched to the theme of winter snow falling on a flower bed.

Thanks for sharing.

I used to live in the snow-belt fifty miles south of Cleveland, Ohio. I don't miss the snow. After I moved to Florida, I missed the first snowfall, but that was all.

Thank you Thomas for your thoughtful and encouraging review. I used to live in northwest PA - not so far from Cleveland. The Browns used to be my "team". haha

Nice job with this. It is to create a mental image of nature and you have certainly done that well. I love the "sleeping beauties" part. Sometimes it is difficult to produce meaning in so small a parameter, but you have done so here without any doubt. Lovely picture, lovely words. Good luck!

Hi jm!

Do like your Haiku poem and your author's notes. My go-to style is 5-7-5 poems or Haiku. In late Dembner, I tried my snow scene with my posting of "Haiku (snowflakes gently fall)"

do like your 'sleeping beauties' phrase as a capstone for your first two lines.

Best wishes in the contest.

Mark
