Good for you. You're my hero. You invented the power of positive thinking. Though not nearly as dramatic as your experience, I had an I can moment of my own. Three years ago, I had a heart attack. The doctor said I was as near death as anyone he had ever seen. He didn't expect me to live more than a few months. I left the hospital in a wheelchair. Four months later, I got out of the chair and started using crutches. Then a cane. By the end of the year, I threw the cane away. The doctor is always surprised to see me.

I didn't invent the power of positive thinking, I just subscribe to it. I hope you're doing well too, it's really nice to prove doctors wrong isn't it? You got better a lot quicker than I did. I appreciate yor kind words and you reading and reviewing my work.

Great tale of how perseverance, courage and a strong will can overcome the seemingly impossible. The repetition of the "I Can" mantra throughout helps direct the reader's attention to the quote which is the basis of the story.

I seem to remember reading a very similar story on FanStory before. Might you have described your struggle in a different way much earlier?

Good luck in the contest.

Steve

I wrote a true story about the experience I had, Thank God I didn't put the quote in that one so I was able to enter this contest. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

Necessity is the mother of all invention.
Calamity brings about the reinvention of all necessities.
One quote I often like using in a variety of different situations goes a little somethin' like this:
The difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is solely dependent on the perspective of the individual traveling the path." ~Travis Alexander
Great story, very inspirational. I, for one, am very glad you stuck it out.
Best of luck to you in the contest.

This is a wonderful testimony of believing you can do somethimg. There is a verse in the good book that says, "As a man thinks, so is he." I say this to myself daily. The are no disabilities--only new opportunities. It seems like God takes away things from me just to hand me something new. My writing as a blind person is my most recent.
All my best to you and yours,
Sally :+)

The new opportunities quote reminds me of something they told me at every stage of my rehabilitation, "This is your new normal." We got to the point where we said there is no normal. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate you reading and reviewing my work.

Funny you wrote this I can and I wrote something that liberated me about I can't - I like your story much better than mine! I wish I had a six to offer this story of hope and redemption - I am curious what antibiotics shut down your kidneys? If you remember. I am only curious as I went into renal failure in 2016 and I had been placed on antibiotics and we had thought it was due to other medicine I was taking at the time that they changed afterward it took me a very long time to recuperate, but I did as well - with positivity and getting away from negative people and negative work environment etc. I found your fortitude and perseverance inspirational - I hope you continue to write about your journey and where this fortitude continues to stem. And can you bottle this and send some to all the kids that are giving up? I just want this type of motivation to get spread around the world! This is a great inspirational story and I hope you win the contest. Cheers, Fonda

An excellent quote, I've heard variations of it many times, but the inspiration is always the same. While I agree it's a powerful statement for a t-shirt, I think combining it with running your races would eliminate the need for a statement when you cross that finish line ;o)
Good luck in the contest!

I can't imagine what you've been through. This is a very inspiring story, and so is the quote. You said you could and you were right. Good luck. Many blessings to you

What an amazing story of grit and courage. We read of so many disabled people achieving more than was ever expected of them, there must be a little nodule inside the brain that won't let you give up. You didn't, and now look at you. I hope I'd be as brave and determined as you. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx
