Charles seems to have found the familiarity of his home somewhat settling.
The description and folklore are captivating and I like the attention to detain in the telling.
All seems much more normal in his own elements, until... the modern iPad crashes the scene.

Thanks for your comments on this chapter, Shirley. This is a part of England that I know well, having lived there for some years. This made it easier to provide specific detail. All the best, Tony

I'm so upset, Tony. I had written 3 paragraphs about everything I loved about this chapter. My review was full of details. However, It never fails ... I hit the 'save' button, and then suddenly I get a message that the site is not secure, and it wipes everything out. All that time writing a most deserved and beautiful review for you, and it's 'gone'. It was so detailed, it would take me another 25 minutes to re-write it. I'm so sorry :(

You getting my six-stars, but your story was worth many more stars than six.

Have you published this book yet?

Gale :(

Thank you so much for going to all that trouble, Gale. I know just how you feel. This has happened to me on a number of occasions. I now get into the habit of saving my writing to clipboard every now and again or even writing my longer responses in Word, then cutting and pasting them across.

So glad you enjoyed the chapter. I'm on the downhill run now, about 50,000 words into the novel. Still a few chapters to go, and then the painstaking business of editing. As for getting it published - well, that is another matter altogether! I'll give it a go and see what happens.

You are a very skilled writer. Your description of the setting in Moonraker Cottage was just incredible. I could picture in my mind every paragraph that you wrote. Your dialogue in the tavern is also very good, which is an area of writing that I need to work on. Thanks so much for sharing.

Very many thanks for your review and affirming comments, Stephanie. Much appreciated.
Dialogue has always been a bit of a challenge for me, too. I've had quite a bit of help, off and on, from Mastery - especially in the use of action tags

I enjoyed reading this! You have used excellent wording in your story, and the amount of dialogue to description is excellent and fits well. Great chapter!

Hello Tony,
This is a superb chapter, an interlude that is welcome.
If an editor suggests cutting it or paring it down,
I would simply refuse. This is what sets you apart.
The chapter takes us inside the mind and thoughts of Charles.
It likely foreshadows events that are soon to come.
I like the Moonraker name and story.
I believe a James Bond movie used that name.
There are few things that are specific to England, but that is the setting.
And, of course, the turn (Volta, lol) at the end.
Well done
Deserves a six, but I'm out on this Thursday.
Robert

I appreciate your comments about this chapter, Robert. I lived in the West Country of England for several years and know the area quite well. That always helps! The places and people are fictitious, but I have known plenty like them.

-This is an excellent chapter, Tony.
-I like the artwork, too.
-You are fast becoming a master of description.
-You paint pictures with your words.
-Just in the beginning, you set the mood
with the description of the cottage, the
fire, and the old recording of Edith Piaf.
-You follow that with a moonlight stroll
and the screech of the barn owl.
-I also just realized how you set up
the ending of the story by commenting
on the image of the moon.
-The serenity of all of this is broken up
by Charles's visit to The Fallen Angel,
and John's Moonraker story.
-He tells it quite well, and the trick
played by the Moonrakers was pretty funny.
-At the end, I like how you foreshadow the
worry of Kayla during the call with the "ominous
feel" of Druid Woods right before that.
-I think this is one of your best chapters.

Very many thanks for your review and affirming comments, Pam. Much appreciated. I lived in the West Country for quite a few years and it holds a special place in my heart. That makes writing about it a little easier than when I'm less familiar with the setting.

Halloween came early in this tale of Charles strolling through the haunted woods. It was spooky good. I got up to make sure the doors were locked. Quit that...

A fine installment as we wait to see how the story will conclude in the lives of Charles, Helen and Kayla. I didn't realize trueborn was one word. I always learn something from you.

All my best,
Sal :+)

Oh, this is my favorite chapter yet. I adore the setting. I am so glad that I got to read more about the Druid Woods, the Cotswalls, and Moonraker Cottage. I really enjoyed the story about the background of the name. I like the eeriness of the woods and the camaraderie of the pub. This is all very British, and I love it.
I look forward to seeing what is worrying Kayla.

Thanks, Debbie. I appreciate your generous comments. One or two others have commented that this is one of their favourite chapters so far. Perhaps that is because I lived in the West Country for several years and it still has a special place in my heart. All the best, Tony

I loved your description of Moonraker Cottage, sounds lovely real Midsommer style. You set a wonderful scene throughout this chapter Tony, of the woods, The Fallen Angel Inn and the dark, slightly wobbly walk back through to the safety of the cottage again. Good tease for the next chapter.
cheers,
valda
