Very neat Sonnet, I think that you did an excellent job RodG and I have been reading a lot of Sonnets lately. This was pure pleasure to read such a memorable one about being a kid and playing in the rain. I remember doing all this and much more as living in Vegas as a kid when it rained was such a treat when I was little. Thank you for writing such a fun Sonnet. Cheers, Fonda

Hi, Fonda. Many thanks for your very kind praise of DISCOVERING. While you were playing in the rain as a kid in Vegas, I was doing the same in Reno.

Still am lucky enough to still play with the grandkids other young family members that visit, oddly we had to come in due to rain today. Thank you for Sharing your Gifts and insight. God's Blessings to you.

OH... I love those "yellow-booted feet." The word choice, "hunkered" made me smile. It is so true that Nature did offer us that childhood view of discovery. I love this topic and your descriptives made me happy. This is a beautiful contest entry/sonnet. Great luck to you.

Precious pen pal: beautiful message to be like a child
exploring nature. I like the photo of the child. I used to play
in mud and make pies. So now as an adult, I love to get my
hands in the dirt and plant flowers. Nice rhymes and question.

Your first line is incredibly evocative and the imagery from that point forward brings back memories of rainy days and childhood wonder. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, the things we find in a puddle or a tide pool. Great adventure to dig under soggy fallen autumn leaves - find a bug that scoots off. You've so well depicted a child explorer. I really like the first line ' "clouds which bruised the sky" - great line.

Hello Mystery Poet,

You have a good sonnet going on here. I'm pleased to see you have terrific iambic pentameter. Good rhyme choices. I'm not seeing a turn in the third stanza. You have a different train of thought happening. So I guess that is close.

Best wishes in the contest.

Joy xx

Thank you, Joy. Yes, this is a ROUGH facsimile of a Shakespearian sonnet, but indeed I took license with that third stanza. I am pleased you enjoyed DISCOVERING nevertheless.

A very well-written poem about the curiosity of a small child in a time of discovery. We should never stop a small child to instinctively explore things around them, it is very good when they have the urge to investigate things.

It's amazing what our imaginations could discover in the most normal of things. That is the joy of childhood. Shame we lose it as we age. This is a lovely contest entry, your sonnet flows beautifully. Good luck! :) Sandra xx
