Congratulations Steve on being placed in the Love Poem contest. It is a well written poem with gorgeous expressions of love. It reminds me of the Scottish poet, Robbie Burns' poem 'My Love is Like a Red Red Rose'. Well done. Regards Dorothy

Thanks, Dorothy. I don't think I've ever been compared to Robbie Burns before! I'd better brush up on my Scottish dialect, I think.

Such a beautiful and creative offering for this contest. (I see you won a ribbon and you certainly should have!) I very much enjoyed the originality of this love poem, the unique ways you expressed love and I thought the ending was perfect. I would dare to say, this was flawless in word, thought and sentiment as well as in presentation.

Thanks, Adonna. As you know, it's difficult to find new ways of saying those three little words. This was actually dashed off in an hour or so with the deadline looming, but I did try to put some thought into original expressions.

Thanks heaps for the six stars.

A beautiful love poem, Steve and you take us from the real life human examples of maternal love to fanciful ones like of selkies and that the amazing love that was "matched" is a beautiful thing!

I see another win in your future with this beautiful declaration of love.
The metaphoric imagery is lovely and so imaginative.
Rhyme and meter are perfection.
Best of luck in the contest.

I like this so much Steve. I love the sunflowers the wistful selkie's song...
I love the sibilants...exactly what is a selkie.....I'm thinking a mermaid of sorts
Beautiful love expressed and matched
God bless

    Thanks, Jenny. According to Wikipedia...
In Scottish mythology, Selkies (also spelled silkies, sylkies, selchies) or Selkie folk (Scots: selkie fowk) meaning "Seal Folk" are mythological beings capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin. They are found in folk-tales and mythology originating from Orkney and Shetland.

Some of my ancestors hailed from the Shetlands.

Wonderfully written love poem that uses many imaginative and romantic metaphors for your strong love for your mate. I like the use of the use of the mythological being selkie.

Good luck and keep writing

Thanks, Joan. I tyried to make my metaphors and similes a bit different for this one. It's so hard to be original in a love poem.

A great ABAB poem that flowed in descriptions of what one has and is brought together by the last stanza of what love was waiting for. Very well done.
