I feel like giving you a hug and telling you not to feel bad because you were not there for her last breath, but I am sure you know that in your heart. Your mom knew you loved her and she may have preferred to slip away quietly so as not to wake you, or make you fret. You can ask her when you get to Heaven! This is a well developed story poem. a coherent poem, surprising considering all the emotion you fit into a rhyme scheme.
Wonderful, beautiful job. Your mom would be proud. You may feel her with you when you use the skills she did. Part of her is in you. She put it there.
Have a wonderful day:)

Thank goodness, even though the body dies. . .our spirit is alive and with us always. She was still holding your hand when she passed. Be kind to yourself and allow her love to help you forgive yourself. Beautifully written.

Hi Contest Author,

Awww, this is so sad that you still are blaming yourself for going to sleep. Please know that at the time, with the information and resources you had available to you, that you did the best you could for your mom. And, many in the hospice profession truly believe some prefer to pass over alone and actuall wait till their loved ones leave their side. Thanks for sharing and good luck. Jan :-)

Excellent writing about a sorrowful experience with your mom, but it sounds like you were a good daughter with a very loving mom. That is a lot to be thankful for. Thanks for sharing.

This is a beautifully penned "letter" to a Mom now gone. It clearly fits well into the category of a lament. The easy rhythm and the rhyme schemes pull the reader into the sadness of that last moment that lingers, side-by-side, with all of the memories and the gratitude.

My best to you in the contest.

Judy
