On top of all those accolades, I can see that my 'Patriotic Cowpoke' is not in the same class as your John Wayne. I probably watched those movies in the theater and again on TV. You ably included them in your verse.
Truthfully, your selected illustration had previously piqued my interest, but I normally don't take the time to digest/review these longer verses. Maybe I should going forward. LOL
If I recall a visit to Canyon de Chelly, that is where many western movies were filmed, possibly even Stagecoach.

Thanks Robin. I read all the entries and that was some pretty stiff competition. I''m taking a break from poetry this week and doing a chapter in my book Redemption Road.Believe it or not Rio Bravo is my wife's favorite John Wayne Movie. Mine is the Searchers, but some of my favorite scenes are in True Grit. That scene where he meets them at the end with the reins in his mouth is classic. I also got yelled at for leaving out the Cowboys and the Shootist. I just couldn't get them all in. Maybe I'll have to do a John Wayne II. I appreciate you reading and reviewing my work.

Nice job connecting the history of John Wayne's career. My husband loves old westerns and old tv shows he would enjoy the detailed and witty play on words and agree with the nicely placed metaphors. Good rhythm and rhyme. The tone is playful and the theme interesting as well as informative.

This was fun to read. I missed most of those movies, but always appreciated John Wayne. He carved out a permanent place for himself somehow. I doubt he will ever be forgotten. I think this poem fits the prompt's requirements perfectly. You should get at least five or ten votes. ;p Good luck!

I couldn't get them all in. I left out my second favorite Angel and the Badman. I also loved the Undefeated. By the way I saw the Shootist in the theater, had no idea it would be his last movie, i appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

The only thing I think you forgot to mention was his swagger - I've never seen another person walk like that. It was definitely a John Wayne walk.
However, that didn't have anything to do with his character or number of movies. He did have everything to do with America's feel for the old West, honor and fair play. He was a good guy, all right, and your write was a very nice tribute to him.
