I love the simplicity in this and the genuine love between father and daughter just trying to do their best in the absence of a woman they also loved. Your rhythm and rhymes are seamless; nothing felt the least bit forced. You never disappoint. xo

It sounds like your dad was a wonderful single parent. It is a beautiful pearl and is perfect for the wedding dress. It must of been hard for your dad to walk you down the aisle.

Dad and I were very close, but unfortunately he couldn't be at my wedding. I married in another country and Dad was in poor health and could not travel. Eventually I persuaded him to come and live with me for the last 8 years of his life, with Alzheimers (which was awful because he soon did not even recognise who I was.)

I am sorry about your his and your suffering through Alzheimer's and his death. My dad died before I got married so my brother took me down the aisle.

Another of my Dad's favourites was Kipling's "IF". Dad told me to pay attention as it was for girls as well as boys. To me it is very similar to "Desiderata"... go placidly etc.

Hi Aussie, thanks for reviewing. You are so right about the dad/daughter bond. My dad died 20 years ago and I still miss him. I looked after him for the last 8 years of his life... he had Alzheimers. Mum died in 1969 when I was 15 so dad and I were really close.

Yes it is true (except for the photo). Dad was my adoptive father and we were very close. I looked after him for the last 8 years of his life; he had Alzheimers. Mum died in 1969 when I was 15. Dad never remarried. A few days ago I posted a poem about my birth mother and it was rather bitter, so this poem is an antidote to those feelings. It was my birthday a couple of days ago so this family stuff has percolated to the surface. All these emotions still, and I am 66!!

I think it's normal for those emotions to last a lifetime.
It's very sad to lose your mum at such an early age, but you were lucky in your adoptive father.
Alzheimer's is a terrible disease, my mum has it too.
