What fun. My sentiments exactly. It is a free verse poem that expresses the enjoyment of writing our thoughts and making them flow.

I think we all have the types we write and the types we don't write. I can rhyme to save my life, and when I do it makes no sense. There will always be those writers on here that inspire and help us want to grow on this site. It's good to have so much to look at and read even if it's not our thing

Thank you for posting this. It helps me learn more about how to rate the poetry I see. I do it but I don't know what I'm doing. If that makes sense. I can see why this made All-Time Best. Have a great day. Shirley

We are very much alike my friend, when it comes to poetry. I prefer rhyming poems and I too don't know much about structure or form when I write it. I just write from the heart and enjoy it. Thanks for your many fine entries I've read as of late.

You are right, art is subjective. I have to confess I love free verse.
You mentioned A Boy Named Sue. Great song. I used it in class with my students a few weeks ago, but they found it very difficult to understand.
Thanks for sharing your opinions.

I'm not sure why you decided to rant but it seems rude and not any form of poetry. This gets a generous 3 stars. You should consider a revision.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

It wasn't poetry it was a prologue to a book of poems.

Writing from the soul of man is poetry. Think our souls like rhyme also. This poem of yours writes from the soul your feelings and thoughts on poetry. I like the chosen artwork. Guess I'll be sleeping a long, long time. No one to wake me up. LOL!

This is quite the introduction to OMG I Wrote a Poetry Book. I'm sure all of the poetry that is within it will possess all that we hope for poetry. If it has all you hope for:It rhymes, makes sense, is spiritual, and it invokes emotions within the reader.
That will be enough.

Hi Earl! Don't sell yourself short! I love rhymes. I have a hard time writing things that don't rhyme myself. That's why writing something in Free Verse for me is a complete challenge! I'll take it up if the cause calls for it, or if I feel like a challenge, but lately, my challenges are coming from the Potlatch Club! That's fun! Have fun Earl, it's what I finally decided to do here... have fun and help newbies do the same. I'll help them learn to navigate things, like the AE which took me weeks and stuff like that... lol Have fun with rhyme time! ;)

Please don't allow prejudice to blind or damage your or form your "opinion" my view of opinion is the same as bottoms, everyone has one, and they should be "sat on" Earl. I have written many different forms of poetry, and they remain the same thing. It's all about words. When a free verse specialist said what you said about form poetry against free verse, I nrearly gave up.. Tell Dylan Thomas, Emily Dickinson or Shakespeare they are inferior poets Earl, what you said hurts people! I have written many free verse and form poetry, trust me it takes great skill to write a "good poem" whatever the style or form! Blessings, Roy

Before you read the rest of this I want you to know I appreciate your support and It was not my intention to be hurtful, I was actually trying to be tongue in cheek funny. I did say that I'd try a poem that I wasn't overlooking or disrespecting anybody's work. I did say that a poem needed to make sense for me to give it a good rating. i read an acrostic poem last week that was 14 separate sentences, no storyline or poetic format that I could see. I read a three line poem that said:
    Dawn has not come yet,
It takes pressure to stop bleeding,
    There is a squirrel.
When I review somebody I try to be positive tell them what I liked or maybe something the poem reminded me of. I've had reviewers give me a four star rating because I missed a comma or because it's not within meter. I've had my poetry called juvenile, lazy, and mindless dribble. Those comments are hurtful too.
I had one lady freak out because I gave her a four star because she didn't meet any of my criteria. She told me not to rate her any more because I'm a myopic bore who has no business on this site. Her next poem actually referenced that (without using my name).
As I said I'm sorry if you took this as a cheap shot at you or hurtful.

I?m not hurt at all Earl, I?ve dealt with those demons a long time ago, it?s just misplaced opinions that can be quite hurtful, they?re not funny to me. There are a few that struggle here, I?ve had my share of insults many times. I understand a dream to write my friend. I come with a purpose. Still a friend, bless you Roy
