That is some excellent writing about the life of a nun and the sad feelings they must endure. However they may also miss some horrific heartbreaks that other people in the world suffer. Thanks for sharing this poem.

You make a terrific point, Bill. And some become nuns BECAUSE they had a horrible heartbreak. Many thanks for your kind praise.

I've often wondered if these thoughts didn't go through a nun's head. There must be some curiosity about relationships outside of the church. This is a terrific rhyming poem that eloquently addresses the subject. Best of luck in the contest.

Well done. Enjoyed the great storytelling that you employed in this wonderful piece and the internal conflict that Bethany your nun has that she does love Jesus and is devoted to her duties serving him as a nun but she also wishes that she could have had a normal life where she would have been able to find a husband and start a family far away from the nunnery that her father put her in. Keep up the great writing.

Hello Mystery Writer,
A very compelling rendering. I grew up Catholic - always wondering about the nuns that taught me: Did they choose to be nuns? Were they forced? Your visual and emotive imagery resonates with me.
Thank you for sharing!

    Very moving poem!
And I eagerly was your first vote! :)
I have no idea who you are, so I am looking forward to the big reveal! :)
    P.S.
As a young girl, I often thought of becoming a nun. Good Heavens! I would have been trouble from day one! :)

I Love the artwork you choose to go with your poem it is a perfect match
You capture my attention in a away you would not believe.
I wanted to become a nun when I was young to this day I regret it, except for having beautiful children
The nun in the poem was sad ,when she saw the lover's from the window.
Oh how different from the love she shares in her involvement
I felted the same on the other side of the fence.
No matter which side your on, God has all ready planed your live, so you have to go with the flow.
This is what I call a food for thought read.
Thank you for sharing

I never know if poems are fact or fiction, but... If your Papa sent you off to a nunnery at 20 years old I see that as very controlling of him. Did you not have a say in the matter? Does a nun have to stay there for ever and ever? Your individuality stripped away so you aren't even Bethany any more.
This is another reason why I think Catholic celibacy is unfair. Maybe it sharpens a bond with God, but it also leads to an attempt to suppress urges and desires, which are natural human emotions.

I may have overstepped if this is autobiographical. Not for me to say how other people's choices are made.

A fine writing prompt entry and subject choice.
How hard it must have been for those who found themselves cloistered in religious seclusion without choice.
You have captured some sense of what life may have been like but I quite
liked the last couplet.
Blessings

I felt like that, I'm not a nun, can't wait, informed by Text not a good forthcoming event, hearing your intents safety with Jesus, hoping you make it, stated so few will. All stated in my opinion of this particular write.

This is excellent, beautiful, and VERY moving. You have made effective
use of specific details (thoughts, desires, etc.) to convey the theme. No matter how much a nun loves the Lord, she surely must sometimes be sad over the sacrifice she's made.

This poem is very touching, and brings to the reader to consider an occupation we aren't overly familiar with. This is the nun's 'backstory', and a very interesting one! Its a little sad but understandable. A nun's life is a sacrificial one. Great work:)

Blessings, Tina
