Willie P. you touched me. Nice observations and story of how it feels to be on the sideline of life. My own retirement is a little boring but a bright spot is that I sing karaoke in a group at rest homes. I enjoy that. Nice poem. Good work. Reads nice.

Thank you, Reese, for your review and six stars. I am glad you liked the poem. I would love to hear your group sing Karaoke.

Be careful what you wish for. We have to lock the wheelchairs down to keep them in the room. My two best received songs are "What a What a Beautiful World" and "Waltz Across Texas" - the old songs are so great!

It's a very well-written poem.

This moved me deeply Willie, you are obviously a man of deep compassion my friend, I take a dear old friend to church every Sunday morning, he's lost his licence, because of health problems, he is loved by many though, and receives kindness from many. This lovely work reminds me of the many old people in nursing homes, my troubadour group entertains. Well done, written in articulate tetrametric stanzas, with aabb rhyming, and one monorhyme. Blessings Roy

Well done Willie.

This does meet all the elements of the prompt nicely. The rhyme is solid for the most part, but there are places when it seems to disintegrate in order to accommodate a thought. Likewise, the meter tends to suffer in those same locations. It is most noticeable when read aloud. Nicely done and thank you very much for sharing it.

Hello Willie, I can see why you won the contest -CONGRATULATIONS! I love your story, it is well written, and very creditable. There are many old people who are in situations like the one you describe here. Well thought and good rhyme maintained throughout. Warm regards Dorothy

What a heart full of feelings in this poem. How much a small bit of conversation meant to this older woman. I remember when my mom would call and ask when I was coming to visit. She felt so lonely. Even if I had visited with her as recently as yesterday, she would still ask for me to visit. I actually live a matter a few blocks away, I'm thankful that my sister and I did visit often but even though we did I still feel as though it still wasn't enough. She is gone now. My sister and I, both nurses, took care of her when poor health came her way. She made it clear that she wanted to die in her own home. The house that she and my dad built with their own two hands, and where they raised their family, two boys and two girls. I'm glad we were able to give her the peace that she wanted. So, if you know some little old lady or gent, take a minute out of your day and stop to say hi! You will truly make their day.

Thank you for your very nice words about the elderly, (I am one of them). Everyone needs to know they have someone who will spare some time with them. Thanks also for the stars.
-
You're wel come! Yeh I'm getting there as well

I'm sure there are many old ladies - and gents - in similar situations although not many would probably have the courage to ask a stranger to sit with them. Congratulations on your win. It was well deserved.

Thank you, Judy, for the very nice review and stars. I am 81 but fortunate enough to have 4 children, 9 grand children and 20 great grandchildren. I long for peace and quiet sometimes.

I can imagine the 20 little ones in particular might try your patience at times. I hope you get some peace and quiet today. :)

Thank you.

Hello Willy. It's a very touching poem not about a person, rather about loneliness. Loneliness is so corrosive it can eat away at people's souls. We often don't recognize it or empathize with it in others. Until one has experienced it firsthand it's never really understood. Robert

Thank you for your very nice review and stars. I am 81 but I have a very large Irish family. I do, however, feel the pangs of lonliness when I think of my deceased wife and that is all the time.

This is a very well written poem for the writing prompt about the lovely old lady. You used such good descriptive words it was a story in a poem. Very good imagery also. Blessings, Teri

I don't know if this story is true or not, but it could be told hundreds of times, hundreds of ways. There are so many lonely people out there. Having worked in a nursing home and now serving as a Stephen Minister (lay minister) it seems the biggest epidemic in the world is loneliness. You captured this very well.

Certainly a touching poem and one that most should read, I think. There ae so many lonely old ladies and men too - who just need to talk a bit - I hope we will all take this to heart.
