This is lovely! I take it as a spiritual poem... you came to know your 'dance partner' as a young person and he kept you company, was always there for you even though he was in the background for a while... but come the time at the end of your days and he will be with you 'beyond the veil'.
The internal rhyme of the repeat line works well and the poem has an enjoyable flow to it.
