One icy morning en route to work, a smashed roadkill puppy gave up its ghost like the markhor and sent chills up my spine. The mist leapt from the warm flesh like a frolicking puppy...excellent chapter and tale within a tale.

I've seen a couple of people die and experienced that eerie sensation of the departure of the life essence, soul, or whatever you'd like to call it.
The roadkill puppy would have left an indelible impression.

I like the way you've with the mystical story of his father paying a very high price for his hollow hunting victory of taking the head off a majestic makhor, but suffering the loss of mental and digital enhancements. Whose loss was greater? There has to be a moral. A great stand alone episode Tony, a fascinating and memorable. Then appears a distraught Helen...well done, blessings, Roy
