Indeed this is some thoughtfully pitched advice on both giving and taking within the joy and heartache that it is to write...be it poetry or prose.
I DO find though, some of the best writing is by an author in turmoil, whether miserable in a relationship, or facing unrequited love or perhaps just being plain pissed off about something. I find I can ONLY write when I have fodder and it has to irk me in some way, or stir a sense, or pique my interest for whatever reason, enough to draw a response.
I can relate directly to your authors notes haha
My husband gets SO pissed off when I say "that would make a great poem" ( for about the last 9 years haha so no wonder LOL)
He has to sit through a recital every now and again
He secretly loves it I'm sure haha
Anyway this is about your poem.

I feel it symbolises that you can't have a one sided relationship with words LOL
What you take from writing, you probably give back threefold, I think LOL judging by the amount of unpublished struggling but persistant authors out there haha

Thanks for taking the time, P! I've only been writing poems since I joined here in February, so my wife had had minimal 'forced' exposure to my work. She is an honest audience and has (mostly) enjoyed my foray into the form. She has been reading my short fiction for a couple years now, and it helps me produce more pages since she asks for installments all the time.

This is a work causing the reader to think a lot more about what is being said--which is an ideal situation for any posting. Everyone brings their own interpretation to what is encountered and that can keep a writing interesting and enjoyable in a discussion group. Best wishes!

I doubt this comment is correct, but it seems this 2-line poem has 3-lines.
Just let me know what I'm missing. Otherwise good luck with the contest. No other edits or adjustments necessary.

Hi Lance- Two in my book (I use the comma instead of "and" in line 2):

Much is written of seasons, lovers, and gods ~
take what you need, give what you can.

    Thanks!

Interesting poem. Personally I think we should take what we need, but give ALL we can. It's an age-old truth that the more we give, the more we receive.
So, now, back to your poem. It's well done. It made me think and I appreciate that. Well done. No errors noted.
All the best,
Jan

This is an excellent entry in this two line poetic entry. Chip, oh yes indeed, a very good mantra take what you need, give what you can, one of wisest sayings one can come across, well done, good luck, blessings, Roy

This is a thought-provoking poem. Could it be about reviews of our poetry and prose on Fanstory? Or about advice on life in general? Thank you for the poem.

Interesting writing about the flow of poetry from one person to another in this world. Great idea to view creativity as a flow that we share with each other. The muses can then enjoy the shared verses. Bill
