This eighty-word flash fiction story, Doomed, has the proper word count and seems to identify witnesses to the Earth's destruction. Having read the piece and your notes I can see where we might be the end phase to a failed lab experiment.

Well many people believe we were seeded here by ️alien beings ..

In Scott's Prometheus that was the concept.

I'm a sci-fic nerd and I enjoy pondering on the different ideas that writers ️come up with to explain our origin.

Thanks for reviewing and giving me a generous vote ( thumbs up ).

Yah we know, don't we? If we keep up at it, as the current administration dictates we will. Climate change semantics. Could we call it "global warming" Yet, that doesn't work when we got snowfalls in the mountains, or even glacial hails in Mexico...

Global warming creates more severe and erratic weather including floods and heavier rainfall.

    _______________

The earth?s rising temperatures are fueling longer and hotter heat waves, more frequent droughts, HEAVIER RAINFALLS, and more powerful HURRICANES.

Melting glaziers , early snowmelt and severe droughts will cause more dramatic water shortages and increase the risk of wildfires in the American West.

Rising sea levels will lead to coastal flooding on the Eastern Seaboard, especially in Florida, and in other areas such as the Gulf of Mexico.

Forests, farms, and cities will face troublesome new pests, heat waves, HEAVY POUR-DOWNS and increased FLOODS. All those factors will damage or destroy agriculture and fisheries.

Disruption of habitats such as coral reefs and Alpine meadows could drive many plant and animal species to extinction.

Allergies, asthma, and infectious disease outbreaks will become more common due to higher levels of air pollution, and the spread of conditions favorable to pathogens and mosquitoes.
    _____________________

    Furthermore:

..because the earth?s ocean temperatures are getting warmer, too?this means that tropical storms can pick up more energy.
So global warming could turn, say, a category 3 storm into a more dangerous category 4 storm.

    ___________________

    In the meantime :

Man is doing a good job destroying kilometres of rainforest each week and exploiting its resources and animals ( Ivory black market and for Chinese medicine remedies purposes etc).

Pollution has killed off our bees ( essential for the pollination process).

Mankind thinks it is not part of the ecosystem but it is and when it destroys what ️Mother Nature has kept going for eons ...well sadly that will be the beginning of the end for us too.

CIAO POET: I couldn't agree with you more here. Thank you for posting this truth.
Lust for power and wealth has turned Earth into an ailing body. But our God has warned us. He said: "A person's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possess." LUKE 12:15. For what shall it profit a person, to gain the whole world...and lose their own soul? MARK 8:36. God also said: "But know this: that in the last days perilous times will come. For people will be lovers of themselves and money. People will love worldly things more than they love their God." WOW! The way that I see that...AUTO DESTRUCTION IMMINENT. You are 100% correct. God bless you. CIAO poet. Cordially: rhonnie69.

Your word count is 80. What has our world come to? Consider adding a hyphen... Large, dark, gleaming almond-shaped eyes watch the monitor, their spaceship hidden in plain sight.
Well written challenge.
Best wishes

    Thank you ..

..as you pointed out my count is right now .. Inserting a hyphen the two words will count as one..

If the committe does not make a point of it , I prefer just to leave it .

Thank you for the thoughtful advice , though.

Glad you liked the story .

Thank you for the positive review..

...yes if we do not change our ways will will end up destroying this beautiful planet..

Instead of spending trillions to reach other planets to live on, we should use that money to find cleaner/ safer energy sources.

This is very different from many flash fiction pieces and all the more interesting because of that. I wonder how close to the truth this is? Good luck in the contest.

There is a high possiblity that humanity was seeded on this planet and that from time to time our outer space "fathers" come to check on our progress .

Today we would be seen as a failed experiment and left to auto-destruct ourselves..

We spend millions to reach other worlds .. We should use that money to find new cleaner / safer energy sources.

It seems very possible on reading your story that alien spaceships may well be observing us and finding us lacking in the skills and wisdom to keep this blue planet, our own spaceship, functioning effectively. Our survival is heading for destruction, so it makes sense for the space observers to put us out of our misery. Space euthanasia. It's really very compassionate of them.

Oooppss you are the second that has misinterpreted my ending ..

The aliens have just written their report.

The humanity experiment was a failure .. WE are on the path of auto-distruction

They don't need to do anything .. we are doing a great job on our own.

As I wrote in the subtitle :we are our own worse enemy.

The aliens will move on and let us destroy our planet on our own.
reply by LisaMay on 03-Jul-2019
I think they should come back and kill us off so we don't suffer any more.

As bleak as our future seems , there are people that still have HOPE that humanity might just wake up before its too late and understand that it must change its way.

    Thank you for sharing .

Actually I'm a pessimist by nature ...my glass is always half empty ..

I was referring to others ( biggrin) .

Hi there,

If I was them, I wouldn't bother with the autodestruct. It would seem the inhabitants have brought about their destruction and doing a damn good job themselves, although I found it interesting that only women and children were dying of hunger and disease....

Nice well-written piece. Best of luck in the competition.

In fact they only wrote in their report : humanity close to auto distruction.

We are an experiment gone wrong.

There was the 80 word count .. one also sees mainly women and children in those terrible African aid camps.

Most men are also taken to fight or killed right off when their villages are attacked.

But next time I will remember your point.

Thank you for your positive review.
