This is hilarious! The real humour of course comes in the final line, because you think the cute puns are going to keep the poem running. Very clever and fun.

Chuck in a dose of realism amidst the wordplay. I would react that way too if cold hands got on my udders.

This is a very well done fifty word humorous short story. After reading this incredible play on words with beginning, conflict and resolution, I understand why you won. Congratulations, Lisa May.

I'm so pleased you appreciated my 50-word silliness. It is very hard to put all the requirements into 50 words only. I spent more time writing that than a 500 word piece would take!

You're welcome, and thank you for you for your very nice reply.

Farmer humor. I like the way you told the joke through the voice of a cow. And to answer the age-old question is just brilliant.

LOL! I loved how you used the references to children's rhymes and fairy tales - it made this a fun and playful read. I think you did a great job telling a complete story with the50 words allotted. Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

I am so pleased you liked this offering. Pruning it to fit the 50 words was a headache but I'm glad I persevered and it gave you some enjoyment.
-
You certainly earned my vote. Well done!

Very cute. And funny. And clever. Good choice and use of words. I especially liked "Udder side," "pasture bedtime," and the cow's reason for jumping over the moon. Very good choice of title, too. Most titles on this site are phoned-in, unimaginative, and completely unoriginal. So it's refreshing to see one that isn't.

Shit a brick! You praised a silly write. You must be getting mellow in your old age or something. Thank you for being in a mood to be entertained when you read it, haha.
-
I don't consider whether a work is silly or not silly when I review. Only how well, or not well, a work is written. When reviewing, I feel focus should first be given to the writing, then the message.
-
Yes, you are right. I once reviewed something someone had written and it espoused a point of view I had utterly no sympathy for, but I had to acknowledge in my review that it was well written.
With art it can be a bit different... sometimes I am drawn to the idea or message, though it might not be executed in the most highly polished manner.
-
Yeah, we're all human. That's why it's impossible to be completely objective. In all fairness to myself, at least I try to be. Sometimes, if I know there's absolutely no way I'll be able to retain my objectivity, I will simply not review a piece. I think reviewing on FS often has a lot more to do with reviewing a writer's viewpoint than a writer's writing. Sometimes, I think a better name for the site might be FanBashing. Or maybe, since it's predominantly made up of women, ManBashing.
-
I usually skip a write that I am uncomfortable with too.
I think on FS that too many people are sycophants... so many high ratings get handed out for often mediocre writing in my opinion. FanBashing is not a common occurrence in my experience, but you blokes do take a bit of flak. I write from a male perspective myself sometimes, but not to go power-tripping... I reckon blokes just have more fun.
-
Yeah, at times, I'll admit I can be a "sycophant." Many people on this site would probably say I'm always a "sycophant." Maybe I should change my handle to sycophant.
I also write from a male perspective, which gives someone like me an automatic disadvantage on this site--especially in contests. I wish there would be more male erring prompts. I think I've counted 5 or 6 "love" poem prompts in the past month. Not that I'm knocking love, of course, but it's more of a woman's subject matter. And now there's one on "dancing." The first thing that came to mind when I read this was a dancing tits poem, but I just wrote a poem about tits. I like mixing it up, unlike a lot of one trick ponies here who only write about one subject. Still, I really LOVE tits, so I think there'll be a lot of tit poems popping out.
-
I initiated that prompt on dancing. Show us your tits poem! Men like dancing, don't they? Doing it as a vertical expression of a horizontal intent usually. What about cossack dancing and other virile dancing like tango. Or aborigine initiation dancing, or Fiji fire walkers, or Rudolf Nureyev with the sock in his tights? Go on, be a man and write something about dancing. Or why don't you put up a prompt topic yourself that will be hard for chicks to write about??
-
I hate dancing. Your examples aside, it's still a woman-dominated obsession. No disrespect intended. I only move when I have to. Yeah, "horizontal" dancing makes sense. You get something from that. There's no happy ending in dancing.
Regarding putting up my own prompt: no. I need to stay behind the scenes. I can't piss any more people off. I've accepted my fate: a certain group here is allowed to bash me, but I'm not allowed to bash them. A bunch of people who left FS (or were forced to leave) have stated exactly what as much.
-
Oh how interesting! You are a rebel. I have belonged for 6 months so I am still unaware of politics and schisms and cliques. I did not know people could get forced to leave. There must have been too much friction somehow with comments. I would think muting would suffice.

Ha, ha. There are so many possibilities by employing these types of play on words. I guess you could have continued with many more if the remit for the contest hadn't limited you to just fifty words...
Good luck with the competition :)

Yes, I could have. Probably lucky the limit was 50 words or readers would be groaning too loudly.
Thanks for reviewing.

Thanks Dolly, glad you like cows. There are so many entries, the vote is being split with no obvious leaders. I just like that it brings a smile to readers.

A giggle about cows... such simplicity!
Now they just come in plastic shrink-wrapped trays and milk bottles.
