Love your rhyming and lyrical style. Very easy to read, well written and clever. Such a simple idea, postman being chased by dogs, but very well done.

Thanks for your terrific review, Kelley!
I'm glad that job was only a brief one. Luckily it didn't put me off dogs forever.

This is great. I am definitely voting for this one. The description is so vivid that the reader feels as if they are riding with you on the back of the bicycle. This puts the reader at a great disadvantage too. The slower dogs can nip at our butts. You have come up with the best solution. Your image is so clear and colorful this could be made into a cartoon. Well described.

When ya think of all the folks of old, that persisted, through the thick & thin! This guy might not have wanted to live in Washington St. though. Summers might be good, but a lot a the rest of the time could be mired in the mud!

It looks as if there was a lot of thoughtful work put into listing drawback to this postman profession: cursed curs and horrible Holly hedges to name two. I love your last three humorous lines: The mail was all soggy; chewed up by the doggy, so I crawled away home to hide. I am trying to remember the last time I saw a postman on a bicycle and couldn't. Was this before the 1970s? The illustration suggests more like the turn of the century. Some great internal rhymes.

Thanks for your review. I used that illustration to emphasise the fact that postal delivery by bicycle is a thing of the past. My poem is based on my experiences in the early 70s when I had finished high school and was a postie for a while until I was traumatised by dogs chasing me... it did turn me into a very quick cyclist though!

Your poem painted a dark picture of the sad life of our postmen. I did laugh though at the image of the poor soul sitting drenched and in danger of being eaten.

Thanks for your review. Humour is often to be found at other people's expense. We do love laughing at another's problems... until it happens to us!

Oh that's a sad sad tale. What about the poor postmen who walk their beat - how they must hate those dogs. A nephew/law retired from a walking route - he misses the people he met.
Good poem.

I'd hate to be a walking postie. Being on a bike was bad enough.
    Thanks for your review.

I think you've done a marvellous job with this share a story in a poem about your job, and you have. I think you've highlighted all that hazards and pitfalls of your job, hilariously well, and great rhyming gives that classical poetic sound one needs to do well. Well done, good luck, blessings, Roy

I'm pleased you like my humour. I usually write free verse, but I am trying to get better at rhyming poems. I felt it suited this subject.

Hello mystery writer. The postman being chased by dogs appears to be a universal problem. At one time I remember seeing a walking postman carrying dog repellent spray attached to his belt. I like the last stanza very much as it summarize the day of delivering the mail . Robert

...big ones, little ones, young ones, old ones, black ones, white ones... the dogs all seem bent on causing problems for the postie!
    Thanks for your review.

Hello,
I spent one summer as part-time relief postman. I had routes to walk, no bike and dogs were my Bain. One leaped though a closed screen door and tore my pants to shreds ...funny..no blood or even cuts! - Lobber

Damn dogs and posties seem destined to have dramatic encounters. That would be scary to have a dog shred your clothes.
