This definitely deserves a six, but I just used my last one. Your rhyme is great and the story of your poem is clearly understandable. This poem should do very well in the contest.

Your poem depicts the cowboy well. The poem has good flow and rhyming scheme. I especially liked the first two stanzas. Good artwork choice for theme.

I really enjoyed your story, your rhymes and flow, this is a great poem filled with all the good things this man did to forge a frontier, a time when men were men and women were glad of 'em, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

This is a wonderful tribute to the pioneer men who dealt with some of the harshest conditions. The picture reminds me of Daniel Boone, one of the most famous of these frontiersmen! Good luck in your contest!

I'm glad your wrote this because I automatically thought about Davy Crockett. I remember the Walt Disney series back in the 1950s that made Fess Parker a star. I think there are about a hundred lines to the song, 'The Ballad of Davy Crockett'. This is a super posting and I wish you the best with the contest.

Yes, that series was one of my favorites, too, and the song does seem to have a hundred lines. Many thanks for your high praise of my ode.

Your tribute to frontiersmen is well-written. You have made excellent use
of specific details to describe the white man--heroes--taming of the country--right down to the areas already owned by native Americans.

We can admire the Frontiersman for his courage and savvy. Most admired the Native Americans and often lived with them and like them chose NOT to possess the land. The farmers and land speculators were the culprits who stole the land. Many thanks for your kind praise, Janice.

I always watched the last of the Mohicans on the television when I was a young girl. It was the only way us kids in the UK had a taste of the American life as they claimed the land as their own. It's only now I feel sorry for the Indian nations but back then it all looked so exciting. This is an excellent contest entry you've told the tale and followed the rules. The story was brilliant. A virtual 6, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Ironically, we did not get that program where I grew up in America. I am so pleased you like my ode and found it informative. I also appreciate the virtual six.

I have re-read. I see what you are saying. OK I have revised my rating to Excellent. But I would still not use the term "Injuns." I believe it is considered pejorative.

Hi Harry, I appreciate your sharing my ode, but please reread it. The rhyme pattern is ABCB throughout. I used ?injuns? because it was commonplace then and I do not think readers will find it offensive.
