This poem is well-written and heart-warming, making excellent use of specific details to describe life lived the right way--enabling one to look back on the decades and smile.

A very well-written heartfelt poem. We grow older but we always feel the same. Our bodies cannot always take all the pressure but our minds feel young and alive. When our children cares about our birthday if speaks of a life well lived.

I do like this poem - it captures what it feels like to see the years - behind you. Remember all the hard work, be proud of your kids. On my husband's eightith our four sons (and their families) threw him such a party. It was grand.

The mirror imagery is excellent. You will draw many readers in. Some will identify and some will gain more insight. I'm sure I'm not the only one surprised at my looks when I look in the mirror. I have had some funny experiences lately with my distorted thinking. I read about a 70 year old woman whose house was broken into. She got untied when they left and called the police. Another 69 year old man got caught walking in deep snow and finally got rescued. So with both of them I thought " that poor old lady and that poor old man. They worst one was when I recently heard that 3 people ages 67, 71 and 74 were missing while hiking. I thought said, " what were people that age doing hiking? The kicker is that I'm 72! I hiked for 3 hours last summer. This is an entertaining and uplifting poem.

I love this poem. A man who immigrates, works hard, takes care of his family, loves his wife and raises his sons well. Makes a good life. Can't ask for more than that. The most amazing thing about getting old is you don't feel it inside, you still fill young. Maybe that's a gift. I hope you do well in the contest. Rox

An excellent poetic essay on the effects of aging. I too catch myself off guard when I look in the mirror and wonder who in the heck that I am looking at. Don and Vicki

I'd say this one is a winner in the contest you've entered. It reeks of truth and what most old people must feel. Did I raise them right? Did I give them enough tools to survive and flourish? Then to see them and know that you did what you had to do to make them successful and have a good life. Well poet this is a superb write. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi
