This is subject a good subject to address. Many readers will immediately identify. Others will cringe with the thought that they will someday reach the embarrassing age. Actually that occurs often in life. Somewhere in the early grades something embarrassing will happen and the whole class will innocently laugh. Junior high and pre, mid puberty guarantees embarrassing situations. On and on embarrassment throughout life. So by the time we get to be our age, we pretty well don't need to care. I'm voting for this one.

Good poem - I enjoyed reading about what embarrassed us as young ones around our parents, and now we are doing the same. "Don't sweat the small stuff" is a valuable lesson to learn. What harm is there in a dribble of soup or a blob of gravy? 'Aging is a humbling thing'... we learn to forgive ourselves first.

Thank you for reading and understanding and commenting.
The older I get I still hate to make gaffs but not as much as I used to AND sometimes short term memory loss isn't all bad. :)

There have to be some compensations!

I like this well thought out and matter-of-fact poem. Great theme that resonates with all of us... it seems you can take aging with largesse too. Good job and good luck.

    Thanks,Melissa,
Sometimes when I say or do something I wish I could take back, short term memory loss kicks in and I'm saved. :)
I appreciate your very nice comments!

This is my favorite aging poem from all the entries I've read. You combine heart and humor in a tapestry of rich philosophical wisdom. I do believe our worry about what others think is a waste of precious time. There's humility in your message.

well, you have made my day! thank you!!
Also, you see beyond words into true thoughts - regret at being embarrassed, and how what goes around, comes around.
Many thanks for the 6!! It is much appreciated as is your wonderful review.

.Sometimes I get tired of staining my blouse at breakfast when I won't change all day. I understand. The easier we take it, though, the easier we make it on those around us.

it's just one little bothersome sign of aging. there are certainly worse ones.

I really enjoyed this poem because I can easily relate to the Speaker, now aged, who spills food on himself while dining. Yes, "Aging is a humbling thing" and we probably should not "sweat the small stuff." Rod

glad you enjoyed it. To kid you a bit - I said I was "agING,"not aged.
Not a stage I want to rush though. :) It's coming quick enough.
But thanks for reading and commenting!
