This happens in bicycle races also - all kinds of debris end up in the eyes, the nose, themouth. Our son has done road racing for years - he's sort of semi-retired now with 6 kids he keeps busy - but we went to many a race and their faces were often black when the race ended.
good short story

Haha.... it's like that with riding a motorbike wearing an open-face helmet, too. You can tell a happy motorcyclist by the bugs caught in their teeth.

I think this was a difficult assignment and you managed to pull if off. The use of the two meanings of "dash" to start and end with was very clever. Keep writing.

Thanks Susan. I thought the variety would not be so predictable in such a short write.

Well..you should BEE lucky that it didn't sting you.. or maybe it did...(hope not)...mayBEE you shouldn't have been dashing about unless you're quite dashing. - Lobber

I think when the bee could not find any pollen or honey up there it flew away again, but not before the race was lost, unfortunately. Fatsos can't go dashing about because of their bulk, so the runner was probably rather dashing to look at... but maybe even on the 'too skinny' side.

Yes. That always slows me down, too. When my cousin and I were kids, he was complaining about how tight his shirt was. "I can't take it off."

A bumblebee flew in his shirt. It quickly slipped right off.

It's interesting how quickly clothes can be removed in certain situations.

Oooops... A bee in the nose is something that's only best imagined. In life generally, we spend so much time planning and preparing... But in end, it may not just work out as planned or as we would have wanted it to. The key is not to get discouraged.

I wish you all the best in the contest

There's always next time, with no bee hopefully.
    Thanks for your review.

What can you do about something like that? That's such an unfortunate break. You've got the race locked up and suddenly, a bee flies up your nose. Do you think that the judges would understand and help you out? Umm, no. This is funny and I enjoyed reading this well written work. Well done!

Thanks for your review. I think that bee was trained by the ruthless opponent.

Well, 'dash it' is a calm way to express your thoughts/feelings over this predicament, Mystery Author. Good job with the prompt. I enjoyed reading your contest entry. It is interesting how the same word at the start and end works with two different meanings. Thnks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

Thanks for reviewing - I figured a word with 2 meanings would make the limited story more interesting.

Ha ha ha! A bee? Up the nose? Oh my goodness, how painful that would be! You made me smile here and this write is inventive, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

Thanks for your review. It hasn't actually happened to me on a running track but I did get a wasp in my motorcycle helmet once and it stung my neck. Not nice.

Thanks for clarifying that hyphenated words issue. I was wondering about that. I like the humour you've injected into this one with the entrance of a bee! Misbeehaving, too.

Thanks for your review, Sallyo. Let's hope the bee didn't sting - that it just went visiting up the athlete's nose.
