I'm so sorry you lost your furry little friend. They're members of the family, and it's heartbreaking when they leave us. I've had to say goodbye to more than one beloved pet in my life, and it's broken my heart each time.

I wish I had a six to give this, I love it so much. Of course, I have to mention that my little black-and-white "Flop" (he ran to the door and rolled over when we came home; thus, the silly name). He was a baby, a stray found on the street by a friend and given to me. I had him twenty years and was devastated when I had to put him to sleep (renal failure). Anyway, back to the story you've detailed in this poetic tribute, it's well-written and poignant, and I hope you do well in the contest. And, I know how you're feeling about little Cubby.

I wish I had a six to give this, I love it so much. Of course, I have to mention that my little black-and-white "Flop" (he ran to the door and rolled over when we came home; thus, the silly name). He was a baby, a stray found on the street by a friend and given to me. I had him twenty years and was devastated when I had to put him to sleep (renal failure). I appreciate your comments very much. Flop sounds delightful. Animals develop such endearing habits. Being together for that long I can certainly understand your devastation when the time came to say goodbye. My puss got renal failure also, along with a heart murmur and thyroid trouble.

Part of the reason I went away on that wilderness trip was for distraction, but now I am back and the house feels so empty.

I can believe that. After we had to have Hercules (sheep) put down, we'd still look for him in his paddock. He was a rescue too. Perhaps it is time to get another cat?

Too soon. It was only last Wednesday. Her grave hasn't settled yet. I also need to do some travelling that her absence has freed me up for.

Certainly travelling becomes much easier without pets to worry about.
