Oh goodness, Jenin, this is very graphic and descriptive. Not to mention you found a very creepy picture to match the scene you set.

I can see why this won the competition.
Well done!

A perfect win in the Rhyming Contest! When you wrote this you must of felt every word. I like how smooth and silky the rhymes come across while you tell a masterful story! Congratulations on the win.

Ah, this one touched me to the very core. I've seen many homeless, street musicians and this depicts their lot perfectly. I've always felt sad for the ones who look the way this poems conveys, but now even more so. It's like now I feel what they feel, think what they think, etc... that's the power of poetry and you have used that power so effectively. A beautiful write. Sniff.

I can see why this won first place. Congratulations!
This is an emotional rhyming poem. Well written and thought out. The sad somber picture is effective. Worthy of a six shower.

It is easy to see why this ekphrastic poem is the rhyming contest winner. It is so well written and presented.

This is my favorite verse:
He plays on and on
as music is his love
and will continue
till he's called from above.

Congratulations on a wonderful achievement!

Beautiful rhymes and words. The story incorporates feelings of pain, despair, disgust, but also hope in the form of the guitar he continues to play despite all that he has experienced.

I really like the way you've explored the backstory of the figure from this painting and given us a sense not only of the battles he wages now with age and pain, but also the battles from a previous life. Congratulations on your win! :)

Very good poem. I think it was picture that got me. In my horror fill mind, I just seem him strumming his guitar away in purgatory somewhere but nevertheless very good imaginary with your words

Yes! Well done jenintorre. Not only do the words chosen perfectly reflect the art, they also bring the reader back round to the art noticing the details more as the story unfolds in rhyme. We note the bruises that may have only been interesting shade choices before. We feel the connection to his guitar as it goes on, and then.. in the final 3 words, we see it all clearly.
I am glad this one came across for review. I love Picasso and enjoyed what you did here.
