Your poem evoke sorrow and pity in me, but that pity transformed into admiration upon reading your last stanza. I'm sure Picasso would have appreciated your interpretation of his painting. Your poem paired with the painting are interlocked forever in my mind. I think your poem can be published in a magazine.

Your imagination weaves a good tale around the man. Your description is quite true to who he might be and paints a further picture of his life that perhaps we would not think of. Well done.

Great piece of poetry Jen. I was very impressed by how you were able to take this Picasso painting and make a ballad out of it. The descriptions you used of this old guitar players hands being raw and his legs bruised were very effective and convey the fact that even though this poor decrepit man may have lost everything that he still has his music to keep him alive. Well done.

This is a stunning poem. I am not really a meter and rhyme person, but it hits my heart in bolts; I love it. There are so many amazing lines in this "simple but heartfelt" poem, that I am having a hard time finding my favorite. The last stanza is my favorite - "as he hears and can feel - but his eyes cannot see" This is a tribute to many warriors, that have never had any respect. But this just might be my version of my feelings on this one.

Your poem rhymes well and is about my favorite topic--art. I've always liked that painting by Picasso painted in his "blue period." I think you've described it well which proves that an artist of any kind can't stop creating no matter how old or infirm. Nicely done. Marilyn

I thoroughly enjoyed your take on Picasso's painting of The old Guitarist. You added depth, emotion and a story that reaches put and touches the reader. It is an excellent entry for the rhyming poetry contest, good luck!

This is beautifully written, very descriptive and heart wrenching. When we see people like this on the street we never know what they did in their past. At least he has his guitar to comfort himself and maybe soothe the souls of passers by.

Emotion is heightened by the short lines in this smoothly metered group of abcb quatrains. Seems to be an ekphrastic poem.
Good luck in this contest.
Keep writing

A very well-written ekphrastic rhyming poem about the portrait of Picasso and the street musician who plays the music for years and his fingers become as hard as steel.

This is truly sad and unfortunate. Your beautiful and descriptive wording strums a very sad song. This poor soul sounds like he's blind and overlooked, perhaps he was a soldier at some point. How many times do people pass them by without a care in the world, making fun of them? It doesn't go unnoticed. Those that have mistreated these poor souls will have to answer for it. I believe that. Thanks for sharing this thought provoking and well written work. Well done!
